formatted my pc yesterday, put sp2 on with updates etc, completely screwed it up, couldn't get web pages and kept freezing. Now I've removed it and it still keeps f**king up, and the worse thing is that i can't even install it again for some reason! WTF

Sort it out microsoft!

format and install it again mate including SP2

Had the same problem with my Mrs's pc. A second format / install sorted it.

its weird i have never had a problem with sp2 but i always install it after a fresh install before anything else goes on

yeah me neither, installed it on lots of different machines and the only time the pc was worth off after the reinstall I just tried again and all was well and still is.

After you install Xp make sure you install all the updates including SP2 before anything else.

So thats wot my PC is doing !!!

Its how it came fromt he factory...... its just randonly started freezing on web pages.

So annoying. Gonna give it a format

Clart - just get yourself employed as a beta-tester m8. I've never known anyone have so many issues with patches as you! :clown:

BF2 itself - update patches for BF2 - now XP SP2. Somebody somewhere would pay you decent money to f**k up their software and find issues with it...

if you are having problems installing SP2 again mate, just download it as a file instead and install it that way rather than trying to do it via Microsoft Website.

^^^ i got mien from PC World

there had been literally a truck load delivered and basicly dumped in the middle of the store !!

It was from MS in a white pack explaining you must do this vital upgrade ;)

Yeah.. sometimes it doesn't install properly (reasons unknown to man!).

I usually delete partition, recreate it, format (NTFS)... then re-install.

It's become a ritual I do every two months, to keep it running smoothly.

I run Windows 2k and Fedora Linux on dual boot.

I spend more time on W2k...

Good lad ! :D

The only reason you spend more time in windows though is cause it takes longer to do everything.. what with all the reboots after crashes etc :rasp:

depends what you wanna do. linux is a great system both that and windows have there advantages and disadvantages and windows 2000 was the best of the bunch easily. I've only crashed 2000 twice and the computer was on constantly night and day never turn it off.

nah sp speeds up fresh machines i install it all the time on loads of pc's (for work) and it works great.

Personally, I've had no issues with SP2 either at home or work. The only issue we get occasionally is the Windows Firewall can sometimes get a over-zealous with shared access, etc.

As for DOS - LOL - bring it back - all is forgiven! When will we ever get an OS on three floppy disks ever again?! The two things that I didn't like were HIMEM and EMM386. Trying to maximise their usage when running DOS games and it reports "BLAHBLAH.exe requires a further 2k to run" ARGH! :rasp:

Ahh the good ol' days ^^

Both OS's have their uses. I love my Mac, but I use my PC more because of the apps we run at work and the domain environment we have.
