Yet Another Alarm Problem On 172

Sounds like I join the ALARMin club

After this mornings farce I am the definitive neighbour from hell

No probs in 6 wks then at 2am the alarm goes off, I assume its one of those things, Disarmed & went out - No signs of break-in or anyone about etc

Set alarm - 2 Mins later went off again

This time when I disarmed it their were loads of beeps (sounded like chuffin morse code LOL) followed by a long (30 secs) continuous buzzing.

This went on from 2am to 7am on/off, I slept downstairs for gods sake & everyone on the close must have felt like putting a brick through the windscreen

Spoke to dealer this morning & he said "Close the air vents & re-check" Although the morse-code chirps left him saying "Well replace the whole system Ive come across this before" Luckily for me my 172 is booked into dealer next Monday ALL day for a front wiper blowing fuse problem so they are gonna swap whole Cobra alarm.

Then came on here & tonight may try & reduce sensitivity, certainly close ALL vents, check bonnet switch & maybe maybe lock car with no alarm set.

PLEASE PLEASE COBRA DONT GO OFF TONIGHT AS THE NEIGHBOURS WILL FORM A VIGILANTE GROUP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there are no sensitivity adjustment screws on the new alarms.you have to swap over the red and white ultrasonic connectors.this will reduce sensitivity by 40%.turn off the ultrasonic function and retry it.

Cheers Jay, strangely enough the alarm didnt play up at all yesterday or during the night, i have closed the air vents on the dashboard, how do you disable the ultrasonics and just leave the boot, bonnet, door switches working ? I know how to lock the doors without arming at all but thats my last resort, the manual for the alarm is very basic indeed

am still getting it replaced next monday and hope its ok until then

ps where do you swap the red/white cables, at the sensor end or at the alarm console end (wherever that is anyway !!)

check in your alarm manual but i think to disable ultrasonics you turn the ing on/off two times and then lock it with the plip.there is a audible beep to tell you there switched off.it only works once so you would need to do the procedure every time you lock the car to keep turning them off.

to swap the ultrasonic wires over you need to gain acces to the ecu area.id just keep turning them off until the dealer looks at it.

Trouble is by flickin the key all the time i think thats wot caused my immob. problem! It seems to confuse the hell out of the transponder thing!
