yet another problem!!

hi lads/lasses

i posted a while back saying how pi**ed off i was at the fact that my 172 ia an import and i bought it as a uk spec car for uk prices:mad: the story starts like this, i heared a knocking sound coming from the exhaust at high revs so i booked the car into reno swansea, took the car in, had a phone call a few hours later asking me to come down to the garage as they need to discuss the state of the car, when i arrived the chief mechanic asked me how long i had owned the car (one month) and asked if i have had an accident in it, which i hadnt, i was then told it has been in a major accident and the work done on the car was terrible (cracks through the alternator block) things in the wrong place and cracks everywhere, i was told that the car was nearly written off and the damage these monkeys that repaired the car wasnt covered under warranty (£1,000 worth of damage) so i said dont do the work, i went back to the dealer after speaking to trading standards and citizens advise and was told i was within my rights to reject the car and get the dealer to arrange a replacement,

i went down to the dealer and used big words like sue and court and he s**t his pants, he has arranged to take the car off me freeze the finance and find me a replacement car, so tomorrow im picking up a 172 silver (exactly the same as my current one, apart from the damage :))

the only problem is this one is a year older and has done 9k more on the clock, but apparently ill get a wicked discount.

what do you guys think, should i push him for a newer car with less milage or should i just accept that he has sorted out the problem and leave it at that??

so that has been my adventure over the past week, cant believe it fcuking reno

just thought id share this with you.

steve

steve, if you take this one make sure you get an extended warrenty, but i would def hold out for a newer car with same sort of mileage, its their fault make them run around and find you a repalcement that suits you not them!!

good luck

mo

I suppose it depends on the discount they are offering. If it were me Id want a refund of the difference I paid for the original car and the book price for the one they are offereing, plus a bit more as compensation.

well the book price for the car bought from a dealer would be £9,500 i want it for £8,500, only problem is hes transported it to his garage and validated it ready for me, im going to check the service history and hpi on the car before i make my decision,

what do you think?

the current car has 13,500 miles on it and this new one has 22,000 miles and the new one is 51 plate and the current is 02 plate, but what i have seen it is immaculate, not a single mark on the car, its just like new, better than my current car, should i go for it? i really need to sort this out soon.

thanks

Insist on taking it for an extended test drive. look for 4k rattle, leaking boot. kerbed alloys, interior rattles, paint spots, leaks etc. You want to make sure youre absolutely happy with it. if you find any problems, tell them you want it rectified, if not look for another. If they cant find another, get a full refund, save up abit more and buy a brand new 172 for £12k

demand a brand new 1 for all the hassle they caused you and the danger they put you in,

i know what your saying guys but all hell say if i demand a new one is "the one you bought wasnt new" and i can see his point really,

the car hes got now is from a reno dealer (garage that i bought it from was independant dealer) with full service history and is truly immaculate throughout, i think £8,500 is a good price for 18months old, if i get him to get me a new one then i wont have much money off.

i really dont know what to do, plus itll take longer to get a new one while this car is ready tomorrow. more opinions would be very much appreciated thanks

I think Id take the one hes offering, plus a good discount. It sounds like a good deal and if youre happy with the higher mileage and condition of the 51 plate (which it sounds like you are).

Oh, and get an HPI check before you agree to ANYTHING. Might be worth checking out your current car too and see if its registered.

Dont just settle for second best, theres plenty of em about with much lower mileage. And at the end of the day a dealers a dealer and theyre all out there to make money or lose as little of it as possible when dealing with complaints like this, the discount hell give you will be minimal anyways.

Its a bit steep and probably pointless in asking for a brand new replacement but you tell him what colour you want and how many miles it has to have plus a refund.

But dont give up because it sounds like he f*cked you big time.

stevo20,

Sorry to be harsh, but stop being a pussy being intimidated by this salesman. Tell him to stick his car and his wicked discount up his arse and get a full immediate refund. There are plenty of other 172s around in your price range from legitemate dealers. I, very much like you, couldnt wait to get the car but realise that you possibly might get another dodgy motor which will give you more problems than joy.

Trading standards and citizens advice are real good people to talk to i.e he dosnt stand a chance. See if you can also borrow a camera and take some pictures of the old car. When he asks you what you are doing, tell him that you need some pictures to remind you how much he had robbed you blind and also to give to the local papers to warn people of his corrupt service.

What you want to get for your money is an import ! I just bought one on a 02 plate with 4600 miles on it and paid £8500. I think that this was a good buy, but not by far the only one out there.

hope you get what you want,

mitch

cheers guys,

the deal is good ill try and get it for £8000 and a years tax tomorrow, i would be pretty happy with that then £8000 for an 18month old 172 is pretty s**t hot,

bike man ive done a HPI and all good so at least the car is clean, oh yeah i forgot to mention he gave me a fiat coupe turbo for a couple of hours while they investigated the damage it was a little shabby (paint work and rattles) but wow, what a car, they look sexy as hell and go like fcuk, i found it quite unpredictable when the turbo kicked in, but that was probably my heavy foot, but what a great car, shame they stopped making them coz id have one next.

i think ill have the one hes got coz i want to get rid of this one asap and it is in showroom condition, but the test drive tomorrow will help me decide i think.

thanks.

mitch,

i dont feel im being intimidated by the guy as i have instructed him on what i want, the dealer i bought it from is very good, ive only heard good things about them, he did a HPI on the car and it came back clear (i saw the sheet) i dont think he did it on purpose,

i dont want an import because of the reduced warranty and no alarm and the hassle of having it imported (and it is a hassle) my brother ordered a nissan skyline gtr and took 3 months to sort out, i really cant wait that long, i want rid of this car and want a replacement asap, im not settling for second best as this car is of a very high standard, i know a new one would be nice but it would be the same standard as the one he has ready for me (which has been transported from a garage that I chose) i dont plan on keeping the car for its life so the extra 9k on the clock isnt really that much of a big deal for me.
