Just orderd a set of woosners 12:6 pistons for the clio :D

Went for standard size with total steel rings, getting the block decked and honed by Headshop UK, need to find some tri-metal or copper/lead bearings and new mains.

The head already has headwork so I think I will leave that at that, but now im itching to change the cams to 422s to make it to the late 230's early 240s.. but i will also need new valve springs from CAT :(

Then im thinking of 120mm trumpets to replace the 90s! lol, but that comes with its own clearance/fitting problems!

Roll on the rebuild!

Just need to order a new headgasket, cambelt kit and ARP 2000 for the bigends from k-tec!

Why do these give you more power...??

We used to run teflon pistons in the karts but i never really understood the purpose.

big end - tee hee

Increased compression - more bang etc.

I think for every 1CR you get about 3% increase (as a guide)

Not sure on torque increase,

No, it's just if it needs doing I'll get it done, how does it affect the engine (failure rate)

I think basically the iron filings blocked an oil way that we could not kleen just bad luck really all it did was restrict the oil to 1 of the main bearings

Only deck the block if it's not flat. removing material will raise comp more, but the pistons will sit proud of the block, and with 422s that will get you worryingly close to valve contact.

Ahhh, I see.

I'll just see what the machine shop says, I don't want to create work etc, just want it to be right and a few people have mentioned it to me!

I don't think I can get 422s anymore, I've got a set of 421s here which I'm looking at fitting!

not much point going high comp IMO if you dont run cam profiles that match the bottom end spec. I'm not even keen on 421s in a stock engine TBH, they're not s**t, but 428s work better IMO

The 421s are better than the 428s if I'm running high comp though, no?

Theres nothing wrong with decking the block to tighten up the squish clearance...works nicely, esp if you clean the block properly!
Of course, you need to have a proper measure up to determine what you are playing with, no point in just handing a bare block to a machine shop and saying deck this will you!

Theres also nowt wrong with steel backed aluminium bearings, though i think ive got some tri-metal's kicking about if you specifically want them.
