You’ve probably heard it all before!

Hey there, Im really considering getting a 182 cup because of all the brilliant reviews various car magazines have given it over the last few months but they always mention poor build quality!!!

Is it really as bad as the reviewers say? Also, you guys always mention the dealerships always let you down and in some cases return the car with new faults! Am i just hearing 1% of peoples 182 ownership or does everyone experience some bad luck?

If someone can point me to a previous post that would answer my questions that would be great. Thanks for your help.

its like everything you only shout when you have a proble

imo they are no worse or better than other similarly priced cars BUT the drving experience always makes up for the odd minor niggle unlike other marques

hmm, JD power survey had Renault 4th from the bottom, i think it was summat like 32nd?

in my experience, the dealers are terrible, customer services even worse. its a shame as the clio sport (cup, 172, 182 etc) is brilliant, i could live with the faults if they were fixed first time by people who gave a sh*t.

renault just dont.

Some dealers are ok. I think the ones that arent overworked can be ok as long as you treat them as equals and not as slaves who owe you something...

Build quality wise, there are a few niggly bits around the car, but it really isnt enough to put you off buying one. The satisfaction and enjoyment you get totally eclipses any problems you may run into.

Definitely get one if you can.

Had mine since may 04, only 1 minor issue so far regrding the oxygen sensor which was fixed on warranty in 1 day.

Apart from that, just a few rattles...

Also you have to remember that even though some problems definitely do exist, people both in this forum and in general like to moan coz it creates a topic for discussion.

There, I think ive said enough on this thread now

ur right, people only say when things go wrong, thats the point on JD Power Survey though, they want good AND bad feedback, renault still came nearly last!

i have a 172 cup 53 reg and have had problems , ie new clutch cable at 10k , top mount was modded(still knocking)no spliter ,new oxygen sensor , air bag light kept coming on ,heated rear window didn,t work , passenger door was catching when closing. BUT all of these have been sorted, well except the knocking but im just gonna live wit that. the customer sales where spot on every time and i have no coplaints and also the fact it has so many faults does not put me of reno or the car cos the car drives mint and is breathtakingly fast and i love it still.

  Black Clio 182

i worked for renault for a bit in parts and i saw the sh*t they got up to and how much trouble people get with there cars and sh*t. i quit cuz it was a sh*t job and i got treated like sh*t and so did the customers.

If it wasnt for the dealers/service departments Id consider buying another, at the moment I cant say that Id want to or recommend one to anyone.

Renault UK are completely aware of how sh*t all the dealers are and dont seam to do anything about it.

my local dealers have all been great (3 of them) i had a 172 from brand new bought in 2002 had no issues with it, ive now replaced it with a 182 with both cup packs, and had no problems with it (touch wood) in the two months ive had it and its a better car than the 172 was IMO. you wont find a better car for big grins for the money id get one :D

I have to say mine has been beaten with a big stick since the day that it had 1000 miles on it.

I have broken it, but it still leaks, it rattles, things break, but I do 35k miles a year. I maintain it more than most people would. IE. Cambelt 10k miles early, anything that needs doing is done - clutch, gearbox, belts.

I have removed anything that could be problematic - interior, brakes, suspension, exhaust, airbox, ecu, seats, airbags, belts, and either replaced them with better items or left them absent.

Dealers are crap. I dont think I will ever set foot in any of the dealers whos service I have thought was poor.

Warranty work was carried out in most cases without problems. Cat went at 25k, exhaust at 20k steering wheel at about 30 and again at 50k miles, leaks werent fixed.

Id say it isnt quite y0z2aProof, but it has almost reached that level of certification.

I must admit i bought the 182 with the Cup Pack on it, it was an ex demonstration car, and i find the quality of the car not too clever. Ive had both sides of the inner arch towards the front bumper fall out, one snapped off leaving abit of a mess, which im waiting for the garage to sort out. Its had a new window regulator, the door trims seem to wobble about alot and the car likes to rattle about abit. I have been recently considering trading it in for a Civic Type-R, you cant compare the quality to the Reno, and the Civic isnt that much more to buy. I dont think i would consider keeping the clio out of its warrenty i know that one. Its a nice car to drive thou, and is quick once you hit 5000 revs. Anyways catch ya later!
