Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

  182cup & 172 racecar
Brands Hatch 30 July 2016
Had an absolutely brilliant weekend with the Track Attack-Tricolore Trophy boys.

Same old suspects were there, along with some new faces, all this with a mixed grid of 34 cars, these ranged from a, 380bhp Skyline, to Mr2's!!

Quali was fun, as heavy rain had made the track, er, interesting, but a dry line soon started to show, so i broke ranks and started to push on a little.
Much slipping and sliding about saw me get into the top 10, Nick Gwinnett was a nats pubic hair in front, so well done to him.
Race 1
Managed to pass Nick at the start, but couldn't catch up with Andrew Mitchell (205) or John Whelan (pug 306), boy that thing flies. So really it was just a case of putting good laps in, and avoiding back markers.
Oh, whats this, a yellow 306 going slowly!! Pass him quick incase he gets going again. Evidently his brakes had failed, so he was just cruising lol, still finished 5th.
With Johns departure, I ended up 2nd behind Mr Mitchell..I'll take that thanks.

Race 2

Basically sames cars at the front, just in a different order, lights out, through comes Mr Whelan, that car sounds so angry as it passes you, it makes you want to get out of the way.
No way can I keep up with that thing, so I just try and keep Nick and Andrew behind, and let them fight for a bit.

After they sorted themselves out, I now have my mirrors full of a very wide 205, it looks like a Tonka toy, lap after lap he's there, this way, that way, really making me work for my supper.
We catch the back markers, so I try to use them to my advantage, this did help for a while, but here he comes again ffs!

I'm now actually looking out for the last lap board.....hurry up.....

Andrew tries around the outside at the hairpin, we touch, he's done it, gitty, down to Graham Hill bend, i give in and tuck behind, great a Saxo, I give Andrew a tap from behind, hello I'm still here sort of thing, Clearways coming up, and I know i'm quicker than him through there, so stick one up the inside, it works 2nd :)

Great races, great people.
I forgot to put go pro in for race 1
so heres race 2

If anybody fancies coming to Snett at the weekend, I have a couple of spare tickets.

We are racing our 3 last races of the year on the Sunday, Tricolore Trophy with Track Attack Race Club.

Should be some fun

Pick up Sat preferred, as will be busy on the Sunday, and it's miles to the gate from the paddock.

And I also managed to pick up 3rd overall in t he Coupe Cup, so I did well enough in my 2 meetings to get in amongst them, it was a surprise to say the least.

So not a bad year.

Burps now in bits, getting ready to do it all again next year. :)

  182cup & 172 racecar
Been fairly busy since the awards dinner, with engines and gearboxes going all over the place to different parts of the country, and me having a hernia operation!
Anyway, things are on the move now, so took the dust cover off Burp, and here we go.

Trying to remember where everything goes??

I'm now at the firing up stage, but forgot to get gearbox oil DOH!! So that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Did a quick compression test :)

And the oil pressure popped up to 80psi.

So all in all everything looks good so far. Fire him up tomorrow and try and get him run in, might do a track day at Silverstone on Sunday, 5 laps with the good old 30 mineral oil in should do it.

Small update..

Well that's 10 laps of Silverstone GP circuit done.
Wee and tea time.
Nothing has fallen off, missfire gone, fluid and pressures all good.
I might dump oil later, then come back for a proper play.

In all managed 40 laps of the GP circuit, and everything was sound.
My recent hernia op curtailed any further progress that day, so Burps been put under wraps until April b/h Monday at Combe.
Can't wait.

Looking good Tony? How is the abdomen post hernia op?

Just a quick question, have you strengthened the rear beam at all? As I'm running full coilovers, would it be advisable to do this?

Not really necessary, just because of coilivers.
But worth doing, as they aren't the strongest things about.
PMS do the kit.
Groin is fine now, just a little numb still.

Just caught up with this! I am really hoping I can come along to Brands when you're down next!

I'll be sure to introduce myself! Top work and keep it up! Makes for a great read and I also deliberately skip your videos as I rather enjoy watching In quiet periods at work :up:
