the gearbox on my 172 is pretty much dead. the 2nd gear doesn't want to get in and it pushes out the 4th. The only useable gears are 1,3 and 5, but with a lot of noise coming out of it. Today went out for shopping and while driving, the noise started do get louder, so I pulled in the first parking lot. When I opened the bonnet there was a cloud of white smoke and a kind of plastic smell.
I can't find a 2nd hand clio sport gearbox, so I'm thinking on Laguna or Megane gearboxes, both from 2.0 16v engines.
What do you think about gear ratios, and will it hold up with the engine ?
