Next South Wales Meet Ideas

Having just done an epic meet, I think im ready to start thinking about the next
laugh.gif

Date
The dates im thinking of are the 4th, 11th, 18th July,
All are a Saturday, Reason being that some members where travelling and would rather spend the night after the meet.

What would everyone rather? I am wanting the 11th personally.

RouteIm definitely going to add Elan Valley again, Just for the amazing views, What does everyone think of Elan Valley then the Evo triangle?
The triangle is only an hour and half from where we stopped for the raffle and donuts, If we where to start at say Aberystwyth i think we could get a good route.

Open to discussion!!

FoodFew people mentioned food stops etc, I wanted to add a food stop somewhere but with all the cars I was a bit worried about finding space.
If anyone knows of a decent food stop with loads of parking let me know

Anything ive missed just ask!!

@MJRacing @msremmert @Filters @Bug @LiquidYellDan @Hodgins @Alex-J
Anyone else your think that will be helpful just tag them :D

I think starting in Aber would be a bit of a mission chap. Merthyr was a good start point as it's quite centeral. No doubt a huge treck for any english members and there was quite a few at the last meet which was brilliant to see.

Dates wise I'm happy with the 11th and as that's the best date for yourself bud...let's go for that. Regardless which date we pick...someone will sadly miss out...that's just how it is and always has been.

Food....I think we'd all agree this needs to be looked at, it would help to break the day up and make things a little more sociable for all involved.

I certainly think we should invite the 197/200 lads again as they were all really sound guys. I'll also stick a post up in the area rep section to see if any other counties want to come and join us for a spot of mountain hopping .

Also guys...we're going to do this one for a local charity named "Casey's Cause" https://twitter.com/caseybearscause https://www.facebook.com/CaseysCause2013

Real close one to my heart as it's for the son of a family friend who was born with multiple life shortening medical conditions. Such a happy little kid with tremendously resiliant parents. I really hope to see people digging deep, spreading the word about the meet and getting as many members to attend as possible. The last meet was a huge success thanks to Dajones and everyones participation and route helpers. Let's make this one bigger and better!

@Sunglasses_Ron Could we have some magical mystical cliosport.net goodies for a raffle please chap? And hope you'll manage to attend too bud.

Also lads....How does everyone feel about a trackday at the end of august?

tbh if everyone's happy we can give the same route as last another try, hopefully minus the audi driver!!!.
If anyone's on megane sport also can you come forward, Let us know and we can use you to invite the meganes :)
Food definitely needs to be looked at, Im not used to the Area north of Brecon so unsure where to stop at.
Aber was purely just an idea to move the route to the roads.

This may be a bit close to ClioSport Saturday for me chaps. Aren't you guys coming to CSS?

Should be able to sort out some merchandise for you though.

  Megane rs250
Im not too sure about this one yet guys
Theres a few things going on around july and the following month so not 100%
Also yeah gotta agree burger king didn't cut it for me, we need proper food maybe a cafe some where theres 3 in builth wells only problems are the parking for everyone

A trackday would be brilliant filters. I'm sure between cs and 197 club you could get enough people together to justify booking a track.

I'm up for another meet. Last one was good! Hopefully I can attend, won't know untill closer to the time though.

Don't really have much in the way of input myself. Lol. Last route was good. I'm easy. Can't go wrong with almost any of the roads in mid Wales.

Twistier the better is all I'll say.

  Looking....
I'm easy where ever we go, would like to do i bit more around Pembrokeshire at some point if anyone else is up for that at some point?
On the dates above it would be wise to avoid the Builth / Rhayader / Elan Valleys on the 18th July as the Royal Welsh Show is starting on the Monday and the roads will be busy.
Hopefully back in a Renaultsport by then too

I'm in providing you don't mind holding back for me lol.

And have someone available to tow me home or somewhere safe

And have a spare fuel tanker following me

And on second thoughts I best get the car sorted first ha

I would love to come along but - alas - I will not have my car back in time. I can't guarantee having the Type R available either so I might have to make a call literally on the day depending on how things pan out.

IFood....I think we'd all agree this needs to be looked at, it would help to break the day up and make things a little more sociable for all involved.
I might know a place, but they will need advance warning and a reservation making. Probably good for 20 cars if it's not too busy. Nice grub (standard cafe fare, sausage egg and chips, homemade desserts, etc), reasonable prices. I guess it depends on the route and whether or not you'd be passing that area, too; it's a handful of miles north east of Brecon.

lol!! Awesome! Legends!

I promise if I can get a pass from her indoors I'll be at this

Would be great if you or another admin could pop along and see how we do things chap.

@MJRacing i was actually going to suggest a cruise down Pembrey way and a chill/BBQ day down at the beach in September for an end of summer meet...could tie that in nicely there.

@SharkyUK sorry to hear the car situations not sorted yet! You'd be welcome to jump on the back end of Suzy. Failing that I'm sure someone would be polite enough to offer you a seat as a passenger....albeit not the same as driving yourself, the social side of it was great last time. Would also be fab if you'd be happy to support this meet via fullyfueled? In regards to food chap...could you message me the details please dude?

@Jaff. We had a good mix of cars last time, so I'm sure even if you turned up in a reliant robin you'd still have a blast. Cory managed to keep up well enough in his dci.

Would be great if we could all pitch in and make this an epic meet. I'll be contacting a few places myself to hopefully get some extra raffle prizes and a bit of publicity for this meet.

The Meg barely gets up to speed and does 12mpg Inbetween braking down lol.

May sit this one out unless I can sort it

Pembrokeshire area sounds good actually. One area I've barely visited and it's one of the nicest parts of Wales.
I'm sure there's nice roads there too.

Im up for anything. [emoji6]

I have a spare seat if anyone fancies a ride and is without a motor. [emoji106]

Cheers bud. The car always was/is going to take a while after the failure of going high-comp NA so it's being done properly this time; even if it takes a while again. :) As for supporting via FullyFuelled... I can ask around but the club is in a bit of a transition at the moment mate. I've been let down a few times too many so am culling and refocusing and plan to do a few different things later this year (and then onwards). As a result I'm not sure I can really offer much at this time. That said, on a personal note I've happily donated to Casey's Cause on a couple of occasions and would urge others to do the same if they can :)

Let me know a time and place. I'll be there!
Best get my decat and remap sorted.
The last route was good by me, although with shorter breaks preferably.

@Jaff. I attended the last meet in a dci that left the factory with 68bhp 161K miles ago! I had a whale of a time.

I think your underestimating how thirsty and unreliable this car is ATM lol.

I'll see what I can do, has a fault ATM anyway :(

  Focus st3 & t5.1 day
I can confirm that Pembrokeshire is lovely.. But as for 'driving roads' it's better up mid Wales.. All the nice roads round here are majority owned by farmers and tractors don't pull over for anyone lol

Plenty of decent beaches with reasonable sized car parks round here tho.. So could be an option for another time!

Freshwater west is beautiful and the drive down to it is narrow and windy but there's literally nothing else there

newgale is massive <- really good car park to meet up in and the view from the top of the road is pretty awesome!
Again nothing there but you have options for solva and St David's (great drives in my opinion) or back to Haverfordwest and so on..

Going on to St David's, whitesands bay is where I spent most of my childhood, the car park is big, but the bloke who owns it charges a fortune and if your 'not from round ere' he will hike the price up :/

So yeh, mid Wales would be a better day out for everyone! But we do have tidy scenery round here :)

I'm totally coming! as long as I can have plenty of warning as it'll cost me a weeks wages in petrol where ever we go so ill need to save up haha

Il be keeping an eye on this I had a great time at the last one and would happily drive over from essex again. Hopefully that nob in his audi wont be out for a sunday drive again!

We were all in the group farting around behind you guys so we never encountered an Audi :tongueout: We had great fun!

On another note I've screwed all the new toys to the Civic too and it's due for a remap this weekend so I'll at least be faster in a straight line!

I like the idea of aiming for North Wales and we could add a stop in Aberystwyth for food but on the weekend you can expect it to be very touristy there and we'll probably block up the town! I'm not sure how many places there are with the capacity to hold us all without cutting across to Wrexham but I'm sure there's a pub or cafe or something we could find if we wanted food.
Alternatively if we could just bring a packed lunch each and stop in any old area? At least that negates the need to fill up a town with Renaults (and a Civic...and an M3... and a nutter on a bike)

This is something I often do / have done with my own car club mate. Everyone brings a bit of something (requires a little coordination beforehand) and can contribute if they so wish. Usually people just sent me a few quid and I would then go to a local supermarket (or CostCo) and grab bread/sandwiches, multipack crisps/snacks and drinks and pack them into cool boxes and cardboard boxes in the boot of the car. At suitable stopping-off points the boot was opened and people would just help themselves. Generally that was enough to keep people going until later in the day (or the end of the drive) whereby we'd usually grab a meal at an agreed pub / restaurant before final goodbyes. Some people would have the meal, some would set off home.

I'll possibly come along for a bit, not really into the driving around aspect of meets anymore with the constant getting lost etc.

Do us a quick favour with that torque app. Do a power run with that and when you remap. Be good to see exactly how accurate/ inaccurate it is :)

No one got lost at all chap, we had an epic time. You'd really enjoy it!

@dajones I say we stick to the same route as it was perfect aside from the knobber in the Audi. If it ain't broke don't fix it kind of thing. Plus if the pack does get broken up some of the members who came last time will surely know where to head.

Yeah. I'd be happy with same route.
Good plan sharky. Makes sense for everyone to bring food. Not many places can accommodate the amount of us. Lol.

For the amount of cars everyone held together well! I think maybe it'd be a good idea to post a sat nav itinerary/post code thing.
So if anyone got lost they have a postcode/street name to enter into Sat nav for each of the sections

I did postcodes for the last route :) sadly google maps only allows import of 2 waypoints, of which itll make its own route.

Food will go a good idea, along with fuel ;)

Sorry bud. I know we had the Google maps route.
I'd rather use the sat nav as I use the phone for music. Its handy to have a short list of destinations for people. It don't really matter though.... Just thought it might aid some people.

I've got the torque app. Never actually tried the bhp out. Should try it in the clio, provably not compatible with the S3 though.
Did use it to check water temps etc in the vxr I had. Never tried the 0~60 etc.

Hey, just a thought.
We could do a South Wales rolling road day?
Understandably people wouldn't come from England for it but it could give some of the local folks a chance to chat and get to know each other, it would save on the old fuel (and saves people getting lost) and we could go for food after it.

I don't know anyone in South Wales with a dyno though :/

Personally I like driving but this could be something different :)

Indigo GT up Tredegar have a rolling road. I know powerstation up Gloucester way is quite popular for rr days. Could be good to do :)

That's a good idea. I'll throw another thread up later seeing if anyone fancies it.
Personally I had my car on a dyno yesterday... but I figured it could be fun anyway!

I'll be there. :) I'll make sure I have the day off.
