Newbie after a small favour from you all.

Car  Teg DC5 & Ph2 172
Hi all,
I've just won my first Clio 172 on eBay which I'm super excited about.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291520203736?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Heres the link if you wanna have a look. Heres where the favor comes in though, it's in Reading and I'm in North Wales. I don't have the time of late to go and view it, they don't open on Sundays and I'm busy this Saturday and work through the week - I think the seller asks for it to be collected within 5 days of auction ending.

The info on the car is quite vague as expected from a dealer, I just took a gamble from pictures tbh although I noted that there was no obligation to buy if I'm not happy with it. Basically I'm wondering if anyone local to RG30 2EU would mind viewing and test driving it on my behalf? It's gonna be a track car so I'm not arsed about any imperfections in the paint etc, so long as its drives well, changes gear like it should etc. Also would be useful to find out if any of the belts have been changed recently (says its got stamps in serv book). If it's a goer I'll get it transported up here, but I'd rather someone viewed it before I booked a delivery.

If anyone fancies being a hero add me on WhatsApp and we can have a chat 07801273960, I'll chuck you some cash as well ofcourse.

Thanks in advance guys!

That used to be a silver cup from memory?!?!?

Only kidding Brian, car looks nice and cups are great

Your whatraapp friend and nearly a buyer of my Monaco.

Dan

You take yours out @Cub. & I'll take this out. We will hammer it down a bypass and then give OP feedback on how it holds out.

I'll be happy to have a look for you mate but won't be able to until Thursday and it would need to be about 6.30PM if you can ask them to come back?

Got a hectic day on Thursday at work as won't be there on Friday so unable to do any earlier, otherwise if next week is a possibility I can do any day any time.

Woah, didn't expect a response this quick haha.

@Typhoon thanks mate. I'll give them a bell tomorrow and see if its a possibility and let you know as soon as I do. Unless anyone else can view any earlier? Really appreciate this dudes!

Yeah, just let me know brosef.

Where I N Wales are you from?
I am working in Reading and staying 5 mins from there so could possibly have a look for you

Fair play you lot!

@MarcJP I'll have to see what the transporter can do in regards to dates as well and I'll update the thread.

@Pauleds I'm near Mold mate, what are you suggesting? ;) haha

Can't thank you enough dudes! (Y)

It's possible if I bribe my workmate to drive the van back, I could bring the car back too if need be

Oh my..

Cars with no reserve aka sterling cars.. You should google that place, there's loads of good and bad feedback over the years.

They used to take cars for mots and swap wheels over to get them passed and then take them off again lol..

I'm sure the cars fine, but they have used all the tricks in the book over the years.. I've seen some utter shite roll by from that place, but all they're doing is buying up auction car and jogging them on. They just flip cars faster than you could beat off..

@Pauleds PM me mate and we can have a natter in regards to when you're available etc :)

@dangerous dave Yeah I guess it's always a gamble, especially with it being eBay but like I said, I'm not after a minter, just something that runs well. As mentioned multiple times on the ad as well, if I'm not happy with it, or it is a complete shed then no money has to change hands which is quite rare to be fair! Appreciate the comments though - I had a look at their eBay feedback, seemed alright on the whole. I'll do a Google now though pal :)

it's an auction car, they haven't done anything other than pull the stickers off the screen, handbrake cable is snapped.
no chance the belts have been done, i foresee a fair bit being spent on it.

and looking at the price i could do you a 172 that's a bit dearer but would be a lot better value and i'm only about 20 minutes from you.

I'm sure I saw that garage whilst driving through Reading at the weekend, Sterling Cars rings a bell. You'd be far better off buying from this site or the other Facebook group.

My Cup has had every piece of suspension replaced, belts done by a specialist, good tyres, alignment, etc and I doubt it's worth a great deal more than that

It looks pretty clean, personally if it checks out alrite I'd go for it.

I don't' think that company should be trading like that on eBay though, they pretty much copy and paste the description from one car to the next.
Thats not a description of an item, thats a load of crap!

Right guys, spoken to the guy at sterling cars, the clio is getting delivered today and he's available for viewing Thurs or Friday if that suits any of you lads? He said I could go down on Sunday if I wanna go halves on his colleagues wages for a day..lmao.

Anyone that fancies helping me out pm me or give me a message on 07801 273960 and we'll sort it :)

Thanks guys.

the clio is getting delivered today

so they've had it on auction for a week and haven't even got it yet, wonder if they'd even bought it before the auction started?

generic description of just about any used car, genuinely wish you luck with this one but will be surprised if it's a decent one.

omg the negative feedback says it all, screams money pit to me,get 1 off here

Looks like they just buy them off trade auctions and slam them straight on eBay.

Risky business if they're not even looking over them, as traders they have to offer a basic warranty.
Outfits like that don't usually last too long as court cases for damages and expenses will flow in and run it into the ground.

No, the cars are all auction cars, repo's etc.. They list the minimum information they have and then let the auction run..

Many people have watched the dealings of the company and they have many many many spoof accounts bumping the auction prices to make sure they don't lose out..

The cars themselves could be ok, but normally they come from people with money problems or others trying to shift a shed..

I've known of the company years and wouldn't buy a pencil from them..

Hm. You're all putting doubts in my head which I guess is what I want! Don't wanna be paying 1350 for a nail.
If one of the guys is able to go view it for me on the off chance it's a goer that would be ace :), I've bought from auctions before and it's pot luck to be fair.
Really appreciate your help with this all of you

this happens so many times on here advice on a car, cars a wreck yet nobody listens to the expert advice off people who know these cars inside out, imprezaworks clio you turned down for this? AGHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm not ignoring your advise, the fact is I've bought it, even if money hasn't changed hands yet. Imprezas one was/is abit out of budget to be fair, if I don't get this one, which seems likely then I'll still be on the hunt for one so we'll see :)

the problem is if you buy that itll be another 500 plus for the cambelt etc and what else its hiding. So your gonna be out of pocket more than buying a 2k one off here thats had many things done and maintained mate, wish you well anyway cups are great but id stay clear of that 1

The thing is. If the car is nice with belts done, everything stacks up etc then he will have on face value a good car.

agree i hope it is for the op,i just got a feeling and by people on here who know the sellers, that it aint a dud

Alright well I'm gonna bin it off. Need some sort of elaborate excuse as to why without seeing it. I'm sure theres an argument for them not even having the car in their possession whilst listed for sale.. bad that :/

Ones just come up for sale near me.. clio 172 (none cup) belts done at 82k with proof, 91k miles, 8 months MOT, Eibachs all round, wants £1200.

I appreciate all your help with this thus far guys, feel humbled that some of you offered to view it for me and even collect it for me. Top lads. The lad with the clio near me is bringing it round tomo night so I'll keep you posted. Could probably get it for a grand;)
