Hi Fi seperates on a budget

Its a £400 budget. Perspective and realisation of what sound can be achieved are needed here .

If we are willy waving , I have CM10s2 as my speakers. #JustSayin

Not willy waving at all, but like I pointed out earlier, 601s can be had for the same money, are more common and vastly more appropriate for the purpose.

Etc.
You suggested buying some tiny, rare speakers for £125 and then spending £300 on an amp to drive them, allowing nothing for cables, CD player etc.

I did say I would blow the budget. :)

Tiny speakers need not mean poor sound. I have had b&w m1 before across the front and I have yet to hear a better speaker for the cash / size balance. Great little units.

Used equipment is good value, you could afford some more upmarket brands. Make sure you listen to them before you buy though. The Cambridge brand is a good starting point and still sound good.
My Sugden A64 amp is still going strong and has been re-furbed by Sugden twice since I bought it in 1969.

Going massively left-field.. what about a 2nd hand one of these.. https://www.whathifi.com/ruark-audio/r4i/review

Got a John Lewis near you to have a listen ?!

I believe a colleague has one for sale, well he offered it to me a while back as he never uses it...

Haven't seen or heard this system but I would imagine it's pretty good. Ruark are near me and I have their speakers so I know they are good.

The Evil Giraffe is stalking me  also has a Silver A3 and lives in Essex

I do bloody not...!

You'll find that's a 4 of the S variety, and I was here first.

CS, I mean.. not Essex. You bought that amp 10 years before my parents met haha !

Ruark speakers though... I do have too many of those

See you out there somewhere
