Turinis on a non cup 182

Hi guys,

I fancy a set of Turinis and have read a lot about 172 Cup spec ones and Trophy spec ones. I have no idea about how the differences between them actually work but I think it involved the hubs. My car is a non cup packed 182 and I was under the impression that my car has different hubs to cup packed cars. Basically, I would like to know which (if any) Turinis would fit my car correctly. I don't really want to put any stress through any part of the car so I'm only after something which would be a perfect fit.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, I have zero mechanical knowledge!

Cheers

They will both fit with no issues.

The difference is the offset with the cup ones being the lower offset of et38 so essentially sit 5mm wider than trophy ones. For this reason, people prefer the cup ones as they fill the arches a bit more.

The center bore and pdc (spacing between wheel bolt holes) are the same through all Clio 172/182 range (60.1 and 4x100) so both turinis are the same fitment.

The hubs only matter when fitting suspension struts or coilovers.

Also for future reference, all 172s including cups and 182 non cup have 54mm bolt spacing on the hubs.

182 cup, 182ff (with cup packs) and 182 trophies have 60mm hub bolt spacing.

Yours are 54mm ?

Brill, interesting. Thanks for the reply. So are my standard 182 wheels the same offset as Trophy ones? Et45 I think it is? This makes me feel a lot more confident when looking.

Damn, why can't they make them the same offset? Bloody French. Oh well, thanks for the advice!

Hijacking the thread... what's the difference with the 172 Cup suspension? I've read the Clio Model Guide and it says "lower, firmer suspension and wider track"and the wider track is due to the wheel offset. Are the Cup struts and springs different?

(I'm in Australia and no 172 Cups were sold here.)

Hi yes you're right, 172 cups have uprated shocks and springs compared to the standard 172 ones, and the wider track is indeed due to the wheel offset from the Speedline Turinis.

Excellent. Is it a common mod to put the 172 Cup springs and shocks on a standard 172? Does is make much difference?

Yep it’s very common to fit 172 cup dampers on a regular 172. I have a 172 cup with standard cup shocks and eibach sportline springs. The eibach springs gave noticeable handling improvements compared to the stock springs though.

Thanks again for the info.

No probs mate. Get those upgrades on your car :) I’m loving how mine handles now with the eibachs. It also sits a lot better than before as the standard cup springs aren’t exactly low. The standard dampers are very good though.

Ha ha I wish, the 172 Cup was never sold in Australia so there are no used Cup bits - cheap or otherwise.

AFAIK there is only one 172 Cup in Australia - a blue one - and that was imported as a rally/race car that cannot be road registered. I saw the car and met the owner (Gazwold on the OzRS forum) at Lakeside near Brisbane last year.

Ah that’s a pain, unless you can buy the shocks from the UK and get them sent over. I have no idea how much postage would be though!

That’s interesting there’s only one 172 cup in Oz and it can’t even be driven on the road. Tbh, just getting upgraded eibach springs or aftermarket dampers will make a decent enough difference!

So why is it that the Trophy apparently has the narrower track? With ET45 as opposed to ET43 standard and the Cup the "widest" at ET38?

Would have the standard 1x2 with narrower track up to the Trophy widest?
