Just discovered the 172 Exclusive Edition

Car  Renault Avantime
Hi guys.

This is my first post, came across this site after googling to find out more about a tasty little Clio I saw earlier.

Im a bit of a Renault nut, I have an Avantime V6, Vel Satis 3.5 and Laguna V6 among others, and I'd like to think I knew all there was to about the trims and specs of the past few decades of them... But this one slipped through the net.

Nice subtle body kit, full beige leather, lovely bottle green metallic and of course the engine from the 172 - The Exclusive Edition looks like a great car.

My question is... Are these sought after? Worth anymore than the standard Clios of the time and will it be hard to find one? Also any members who own one - I'd love to see a few pics or hear a little more about the specification etc. Looks like the perfect compromise of sport and luxury and I'd really like one.

I really hope I come across the one I did today, looked very clean and completely original - really caught my eye. Only found out what it was after putting the reg into my car check app :S

Cheers!

acquired taste. Those who love them, really love them. Personally I've got a real soft spot for a nice exclusive

It's scarab green by the way ;)

I just sold my Exclusive (Number 002) to a fellow member(s) and loved it.

As Dan said its very much an aquired taste, but i'd have another no problem - the Scarab paint is superb when clean!

Fettled was mine, though :o

As for sought after... I doubt it...

Bog standard I think they look awesome - personally I love the Exclusive's alloys although they do look good on F1's too.

Ah thanks for the colour name! That car looks great in the pic, it is a brilliant colour. I love oddballs, it's something a little bit different, that's what really appeals.

i'd have an exclusive over a trophy all day long. last time i spotted one come up, I'd bought an MX5 the day before :(

Nice cars but those seats just want to make me chunder everywhere, the whees look like halfords specials too imo.

Welcome to the forum mate :)

I have had 3, one of them twice lol.

The spec over normal 172's are:

Scarab green paint
grey leather interior (inc door cards)
CD player instead of tape player
BBS alloy wheels unique to the Exclusive
The UK cars were numbered from 1-172 which is written on the sills. (Some slipped through the dealer network without numbers mind, and any imported from Europe will not have numbers either)

TBH they are not worth any more than a normal 172.

Here is my minter lol

Fountain of knowledge :) exactly what I was after, thanks guys.

Well that's confirmed it, I have to have one. Thanks very much for posting the pics, I REALLY like that leather and the wheels :o

And if that wasn't enough, I'm buying another in a few months, fairly low mileage at 72k, and only has a fruity exhaust on - it will be returned to standard :)

Lucky guy! Standard is definitely the way to go with these, with the unique alloys etc.

If you haven't got one by then mate keep me in mind as as soon as I have found a standard exhaust and cleaned it up it will be up for sale

I'm slightly obsessed with them. Got hold of no 101 recently and don't miss my WRX wagon at all. My obsession is spreading to Sunflowers now...........

I know of 1 which might be coming up for sale
Friend of a friend at work let me know if you would like any more info

FUGLY standard IMO

Cream leathers....boke.

Nice colour though, different from the typical silver ph1's

I think all they need is a drop in height...

Small picture but....

Looks great to me!

Best one I ever saw though I must admit was on silver willy wheels with a polished lip.

Always thought they were a bit pointless. Its like Renault were turning something ''sporty'' into some kind of half a w**k a luxury liner :S

There was a modified one at Players 2016. Looked fairly smart imo, never found out if the owner was on here!

^click that and have a looksie

@STEVE.M in the flesh mate the exclusive seems to have a lot more blue tones to the paint

Looks like a Seat Leon mk1 Cupra R splitter that chap, another one of those 'universal' fit sort of things like the Laguna splitter that can work on anything it seems!
Just looked on eBay for one and id say your spot on ..looks good ..not cheap tho ..

Definitely not cheap mate, like everything else that people discover fits everything, what was a £15 new trim from VW about 15 years ago is now around £50 from memory? For what is essentially a flimsy bit of plastic

whoa!

whoawhoawhoaaaaa there..

You said, you have an Avantime V6!!? ?
You are my new CS Hero.

I believe the exclusives are very rare now. Went to view one once but the wheels had corroded massively and the leather had a fair bit of wear on the side bolsters, not to mention a few other issues, so I walked away. I imagine a mint condition one of these would be great to own though.

They've always been rare, and thats never really done anything for the price.
Outside a few enthusiasts they have never really been in demand.

I used to see one around years ago, it had some 'questionable' mods lol!! I'm talking Lexus style rear lights, naff 17's, twin exhausts etc. I've not seen it for years.

Just at the same rate as any other phase 1 172 . They are marmite .I do love the colour tbh, and the comfy leather seats ..i just see them as the equivalent of what Peugeot did with the 309 gti and Goodwood ..end of production special .

Yes the colour looks lovely, but IMO the seats and alloys killed it - they're total marmite.
Personally I think both look naff, very dated.

I bet if they did something more performance orientated it would have been the quintessential Phase 1.

The performance version of the phases was the v6 ..so the exclusive was basically like the Raider they did recently ..just a few fancy bits and different paint colour etc
