Stereo won’t turn off

When I brought my 172 it didn’t have a radio in it so I purchased a used standard radio off eBay. I plugged it in today and everything seems to be working fine (although the standard speakers are terrible!!!) when I locked my car tonight I saw the buttons on the radio are still illuminated and I can’t seem to fully turn it off. Any idea what’s causing this and how long before it kills my battery? Stupidly I pushed the head unit fully in and I don’t have the tools to get it back out

Sounds like you have the permanent and switched live mixed up. They are usually two bullet connectors

Usually the red and yellow bullet connectors that need to be switched around.

Thanks mate, that’s much longer than I though I was worried it was going to go flat over night. I will get some of those ordered

Perfect, I will check the bullet connectors when I manage to get the bas**** thing back out

Thin screwdrivers work too. Just keep pulling the unit as you release each clip

Barbeque scewers or kebab sticks are good too.

I managed to get the radio back out. Two bits of coat hanger worked great btw. I can’t see any bullet connectors on the loom, it looks like the standard Renault loom. So I’m not sure why it won’t work perfectly with a standard head unit.

Check fuses, im sure ive heard when a fuse goes it can cause the stereo to stop on.

I checked the fuses and they where all ok. Strangely enough it seemed to fix its self after having the heaters on in the car so im guessing some of the wires at the back or the stereo itself got damp and where causing it to play up
