Nice find on the old mags, those 206 GTis had the heaviest wheels ever on them!

Harry’s son now owns the Trophy, although it stays in the lockup with the rest of the collection.

Harry founded EVO mag, founded it in 1998 with a few of the old crew, Dickie Meaden, Steve Sutcliffe etc.
Sold out around 2012 to go and work at JLR.

Regards Harry... anyone interested, check out Chris Harris’ podcast ‘the collecting cars podcast’

There’s one where his guest was Harry Metcalf and it covers all the Evo mag birth and running stuff.

Was just going to suggest the same. Really like that podcast, it's a good listen.

Evo was such a great mag! I've got most of the early ones, but haven't bought it in years.

I've got a lot of the specials, anything McLaren F1 I've got. I've got the Clio ones too, including the £10k heroes.. back when a phase 1 Vee could be had for that!

My old V6 owed me about £7k (and it was a really nice one with low mileage). Don’t like to think about that too much.

Got my last EVO subs edition this month. I've got a pile of probably 3 years worth I've not read, just can't find the time to sit and read them. Some of the cover shots were excellent.

I used to buy 3-4 car mags a month around the time I originally placed the order for my 172 Cup in 2003.

Now, I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a print copy of anything!

Love reading things in print, i find its a much nicer experience than that of reading a screen.
Same here. I strangely find that my mind wanders when reading stuff in electronic form. I noticed this first when I got a Kindle - on which I've never finished a book, yet could easily read through a printed equivalent.

The last printed car magazine I've bought has been two editions of The Road Rat. Very pricey for what is still essentially a magazine, but the production quality and content is excellent. They only release four editions during the course of a year too - not monthly.

Amazing you mention Road Rat, i was just putting their subscription in a shopping cart.
I've seen it advertised but not yet signed up and was wondering if it was worth it.
the first 4 issues i can buy as a back date for £50 plus £40 for a new subscription, so that's £90 on print i haven't yet read lol

Worth it?

I think back-dating them makes the cost seem very prohibitive! I didn't get the first edition so can't comment on that - but the other two have been really worth it. One of those Sunday afternoon things to flick through and read if you've got a bit of time to kill.

I was a little concerned that it would be elitist - one of those publications where anything and everything within it was beyond the means of 99% of the population. It is to a certain extent, but it doesn't rub your nose in it. Nicely limited on the number of adverts inside it too - probably a consequence of being able to charge so much for it and fund the print costs themselves.

I'll certainly be buying the next edition (in March?) anyway.

Agreed.

IMO the best one is when they talk to David Clark, (Chap who sold the McLaren F1 when new).
This guy is cooler than a polar bears ball bag! Absolute hero.

Yep, that was one of my favourites too! I did actually enjoy the one with the guy from STG too. He came across better than I expected and I found it interesting. I do find car media a really interesting topic in itself though.

I am still an evo subscriber. From issue 2. Bought all my cars based on there reviews.

Harry podcast is good makes I sound like the wildwest when he set it up.

Just renewed subs they are going a year for £36. With an amazing a3 poster book. Like giant postcards. There is a clio Williams in that amongst the McLaren and Porsche.

I think of all the magazines over the years there love of Renaultsport has been amazing. Often doing back to back with super cars to highlight there real world pace.

God I had the second mag with the 106 Rallye on the cover. I had my 106 Rallye at the time. Miss that thing.

Scary to think a shootout with a 197 is considered “very old”. Some of us are probably not far off that description. Give it time.
