I needed to go to the local hardware store today and while I was there noticed they were selling some aluminium adhesive tape and had a brain wave..

Poor boomerang, I mean yeah it is s**t. Like when your 5 year old brings home a crappy picture from school, we should at least pin it to the fridge for a week and complement him for his attention to detail....I’m sure they have feelings.

(Joking aside It’s a better finish than I get with a paint brush)

Another option, is to find someone that makes stickers and do it to some badges.

Years ago, I got some badges, sanded them flat, had some stickers made and then painted and stickered. Came up good and looked OE, but I'd go matte/satin lacquer if doing it again.
