I bought my dream car.

I wanted a wheel that felt good without looking too out of place. I’ve always liked the personal wheels and it doesn’t disappoint.

I had The three spoke Porsche one on my Boxster and it was “okay”. They go for £400-500 and it wasn’t worth it to me. Since I already had a boss on the column it was a no brainier to get a wheel I’ve always wanted. Especially when you’re paying £400 for 20 years of someone else’s bum aids impregnated into the leather as well.

Cool! Still cannot get on with the headlamps but that's the 996 for you!

Interior is red!

Need some 5 spokes urgently and get your private plate on there. Any private plate.

I have that exact same Personal wheel. Best thing I’ve ever bought. Smashes Momo, Sparco etc out of the water.
This is exactly my plan, an early 996. I’m just scared of the horror stories.
Also, for those of you put off by the interior, I presume you haven’t seen this one:

Weird thing is, in a new car I’d hate it but I’d happily have one in that interior over grey.

Good thing about the personal is it was used for so many decades in so many cars it just sortve works.

That journal is next level OCD, little things like that can tell a lot about how it was looked after. The original owner of my E34 has something similar but not to the extent of a dedicated book. It has all the old tax discs stapled to the reminders with "Paid at local post office on <date> for £**" written on the top and other notes like "Phoned DVLA to clarify.....". Also there is a hand written letter to the previous owner thanking them for posting the garage key back to the original owner as it was accidently left on the key.
I bought a Renault 9 Turbo back in the day, the old boy had every scrap of paper ever associated with the car, and a diary of every single time he put fuel in it. Mileage, litres, cost etc all in a tiny little hand book spanning about fifty thousand miles.

Sadly the floor had rotted out and the HG was toast and I scrapped it, as I had several others at the time in better nick.

I keep all receipts for parts and labour. And recently I have written a computer program that tracks my fuel usage, mainly as a show off to put on my CV at "look at what I can do" if I ever need it for job hunting. But that is more of a personal log and won't be transfered to any new owner.
I do think it is important details for parts and labour receipts and details to be kept. Just don't see it much any more with newer cars - the service log on my M140i is now electronic and I was a bit confused when they didn't stamp the book or give me a detail of what they did.

Similarly I was a bit bemused when I viewed a car with "full service history" that just had 8 stamps in the book. No details of work done. It could have had everything, it might not. No way of checking unless I called the dealer, which wasn't possible as it was about 9pm

I didn’t think it was possible to be so wrong. But here we are.

If we all liked the same thing it would be boring. I’m glad people prefer the grey/clear lights anyway, as I just sold the rear lights for over double whatI paid for the orange ones 😂

The reason Porsche changed from amber to grey after 98 is because 911 owners didn’t like the fact their car “looked too much like the lesser Boxster”. Sounds a bit like tiny c**k syndrome to me.

I like both, but I think in a lineup of 911s I'd prefer to have the ambers and stand out a bit. But I'm getting proper nostalgic for 90s cars at the minute!

Do they do Lexus style lights for these?

I don't mind the lights either way to be fair. Spacers next. Then a spoiler.

You're not alone in the 90's nostalgia boner, judging by the values of some things over the past few years.
Ambers every time. Smoked/clear screams Ian's 50th birthday treat, to me. Might as well add some England flags to the plates too.

Love the spec and the Personal is the one!
Ians 50th birthday treat is the perfect way of putting it. The Sport design wheels also can be filed under that.

I joined the 996 UK Facebook group and theres a lot of lovely, well meaning Ians on there. "Took the Porsche on holiday" *Insert photo of car infront of British Seaside*

I'll see how the new wheels fit, but no spoiler. Unless someone has a very specific write off in an Aerokitted car and is oblivious to the value of its pristine silver bumpers, I cant see the body changing much.

The Boxster changed from Amber around the same time didn't it??

I thought it was just a general industry trend, phased out around 2000? You don't really see amber indicators on new cars.

I think it depends on two things.

1) how close the car is to original. If it’s modified already amber lights tend to look a bit out of place.

2) the colour of the car. I’ve got amber lights on the front of my T4. I’m changing from green to blue paint. If I was keeping it green I would keep the amber indicators but I’m going to go for clear with the blue respray.

Just seen the hand written diary and brought me back to a 1990 Mini Cooper RSP I bought in 2015. It was a beautiful mini. By far the best one I’ve ever had and when I went to buy it the owner had service history from a previous owner dating back to 1994 when it was purchased. It had the same kind of hand written journal with service items dates and prices for 12 years, which the 3rd owner continued and so did I. It was a nice touch.

I even managed to get in touch with the 2nd owner on Facebook and got a load of old pictures from the 90’s and even one with Mr John Cooper himself.

Sold it last year to fund M100CUP and racing. As nice a mini as it was it just sat in the garage all the time.

The Boxster didn’t officially lose them until the 2002 Facelift according to Wikipedia. But sooo many owners have retrofitted. That’s why the smoked/ clear lights go for so much more.

The lights on the 911 are extremely subtly different in that the pattern around the lens is in a diamond shape rather than straight lines. Haha

It does look much more dated with the ambers, but I suppose that’s the idea?

I’ve seen some awful modification to the lights on the FB pages.

Clear/tinted imo.

It’s pretty simple really, if your car came with ambers it should have ambers. If your car came with clear, it should have clear.

Modding an early amber car to clear is not cool and in the AAZ1234 numberplate club.

Says the club where 99% of members have silvervision indicators

the 172 I just bought has those awful things and even wheel nuts that have that titanium oily look! I can’t wait to put bright orange bulbs in it and drop kick the wheel nuts into the wheelie bin.

I swear my black 172 must be the only clio in existence that has never had mods like that.

So since the start of this thread I've been looking at 911s, didn't realise how affordable 996s are.

I have seen one nice one local to me but it has xenons of some sort, which normally would be a good thing but it has the most god awful chrome covers on the washers on the lamp units, is this standard?

What's the deal with keeping these on the road too? I'd not want to garage it if I did get one, do they have rust issues etc?

Like these? Standard if so.
