How best do I get these back to silver (I assume they were once silver?).

Silvo wadding or autosol will get them shiney again.

I normally get autosol with a very soft tooth brush

Then buff off with a cloth

When I say buff off.
I normally wrap cloth round exhaust and pull it side to side, like you are drying your back as such.


The cloth I use is a bloody old bar towel, god knows where it came from, it was my dad's.

Autosol and some time mate. Just remember to give them a wipe down with every wash and it should keep the clean for a while

Try not to get autosol or other metal polish on the plastic surrounds too.

To do the insides you can get foam polishing cones that go on a battery drill, saves tonnes of effort

Wire wool will also help and won’t damage them. I use it all the time for tips. Wire wool first then autosoll to finish.

Has anyone ever tried Duraglit/Brasso wadding?

I was thinking about giving it a try. Duraglit used to get the chrome bumpers on my Rayleigh Budgie looking

Works class, same with silvo wadding. I use it on all alloy and stainless parts.

Good job bear feet. One of the best tips I got was these from Tesco...

They can be about messy but some water and the autosol they are tremendous. So cheap compared with wire wool imo and the soap seems to help the metal polish go a bit longer. You've done a fine job though, just incase anyone else sees this post.

I have used newspaper and autosol previously to polish them up.

This was a tip I learnt from my grandad who used to clean his brass up with newspaper and brasso

If you’ve got any spare ceramic coating for wheels, it’s works wonders on exhaust tips for keeping them clean as the carbon deposits no longer stick.
