Quaife or Blackline

Am I correct in thinking that the black line requires a gearbox oil flush when used for a few hundred miles as it’s not been as finely machined as the quaife?

I've got a blackline and its brilliant, seems to be handling the extra power too.

Never heard of having to flush the gearbox oil though, where did you hear this @Matt Cup ?

I was speaking to a bloke who had one fitted and he said that due to the machining process being less refined (it’s a quaife copy I believe) he was advised to dispose of the gear oil after a short while due to possible contamination.

I’ve been looking at the blackline too for my spare box that I need rebuilding at some point.

Can you use regular Elf NFX oil with an LSD or do you need to use something more specific?

MT90 has a higher operating temp range so I recommend it for gripper boxes and heavy track work.

MTL for road and light track work.

I’m pretty sure that blackline suggest you drop the oil after 500 miles. The first one I fitted for a mate got hammered immediately and it never had an oil drop.

I recommend the Sintofluid as an alternative to MTL when it’s not available.

Thank you all. Is there any other bits worth doing while the gearbox is out? Will need to get it sent to Northloopcup to have it fitted and the gearbox refreshed at the same time.

As above, but remember you’ll need new flywheel bolts if you do the flywheel, and more importantly, don’t buy a ‘oem’ valeo. They’re s**t quality and fail when under load.

It’s worthwhile looking at the sump gasket when the box is off too - quite common to see them leaking, and access to the bolts at the bell housing end is much easier with the box off.
