signs of a clutch going?

came to drive home earlier tonight and when i first started off the car juddered as i brought the clutch up like there wasnt enough revs... so eventually got used to it and realised the bite point is alot higher than it was a few hours before... near enough right at the top. any ideas why it might have done this like the bite moving higher, is the clutch slipping maybe?

thanks.

Re: signs of a cluth going?

a tell tale sign of clutch slipping is when you floor the revs but you dont accelerate properly.

how old is your car/mileage/been hammered?

Re: signs of a cluth going?

2005, nearly 16k and never been hammered... its wierd as it seems like the clutch is right near the top before i start moving

Check the adjuster on the clutch isn't broken.

Clutch you tell when there going they slip when you get near peak torque on the engine the RPM go up more than the speed thaats assuming tis spinning not the the thrust breaings going.

probably me being stupid, but where is the adjuster?

also, if i had to get a new clutch what sort of price am i looking at?

dont know much about clutches but as edde said, could be the adjuster, wouldnt think its going if the car is that new, especially not being hammered, my first car had done 40k, and been hammered all of its life, before me and when i had it, and that was fine when i gave it back to renault!!

this may help.. will this method tell you if your clutch is going?

stick it into 5th gear at 30mph and floor it, if your revs build up and your speed dont move, your clutch is on its larry way.

just tried this, the revs dont build up and the car accelarates like normal. to be honest it feels like the bite point has moved higher up the clutch, like its sort of worn down more. ive not had chance to look for the adjuster yet i will do later though. also, it sort of feels like the bite point isnt defined as much as it used to be, like when you bring the clutch up it dosent hit a point like it used to... it just seems to be a flat area that you have to hold it in to get the car moving... any ideas?

mine is like that - although personally i like it.
has made my mind up to get a group N clutch when it eventually goes.

Don't bother stock is better I don't see the point in uprated ones unless you run serious power. Plus many of the aftermrket ones are terriably badly built. Group N are just stockoe ones though group N racing just means parts have to be almsot idential to standard.

you'll have a lovely time in traffic with that mate.:dapprove:

...i know, i have one in mine. it's either on or off.

how much are clutch kits these days, iv heard the sport ones last very very long.

£60~80 or so.

Sport ones don't last long on the 172/182 40k at worst. Depends how you driven if you drive hard but plib the throttle it would last ages.
