The all singing all dancing 182 induction kit thread..

  182 Cup
Ok so, I see folk saying that some kits cause you to lose power, while some smoothe the power out and make you lose the 5k kick, I definitely dont want either so I guess I need to go for something that makes the engine sound even better but wont cause any of the above issues.

Any reccomendations please?

None make the engine sound better, but you want induction roar! piper my friend.

ive had an itg panel, a viper and a maxogen

the panel is best value for money but makes very little differnce in the noise stakes, it does free up the revving a bit more over standard tho

my viper roared like a beast but created a lot of flat spots in the rev range, i didnt like this but apparently a good remap will sort that out and good bhp gains are possible :D

i now have a maxogen which imo is the best but it comes at a hefty price, i only have mine as i got it for a rediculously cheap price :)
its a bit quieter than a viper but imo the gains are slightly better, even more so with my rstuning remap :)

ive heard good things about the bmc and it is a good price :)

I had a viper which sounded cool, but as makavelli said there were alot of flat spots. Didnt notice any difference in performance though, although the standard box felt like the engine picked up quicker as the viper was always slightly hesitant as there was a brief pause untill it picked up. Im back to using a itg panel filter now though.

You can build your own Maxogen for less than £100. Buy yourself a phase 1 172 airbox, I picked mine up for £7 delivered, there's one on Fleabay at the moment, an ITG panel filter which is around £35, 2m of 70mm induction hose for around £20 and a 70mm silicine inlet elbow for around £20 again. That little lot comes to £82 but may be a little more for the airbox.

so when you do all this to the car what do you get out of the car is it just the sound or will it go better

Just do what I did in post 1 & 10 here except you don't need the blue hillpower bend, just get ITG panel filter and have cold air feed pointing directly above the opening to the acoustic valve, sounds awesome, doesnt suck in hot air and costs nowt, sounds same as my mates BMC
Picks up its cold air from same place the Maxogen does
I've since added 2 further feeds from the cold air pickup point down near the arch liner and fed them up to apertures arround the acoustic valve area behind the headlight

You may get a slight increase in sound and performance with a performance filter and some uprated feeds.

I am expecting bigger things from the phase 1 setup I mentioned earlier as the surface area of the phase 1 panel is 2.8x larger than that of a phase 2/182.
