Just check each wire is going to the right place.

I'll have a look tomorrow and say where each wire should go to and from.

hang on, have you got the correct key for the barrel and the correct plip unit and the correct decoder ring?

I'm trying to think whilst half asleep but its a clip in unit so unlikly you've got it wrong realy unless as said lines damaged or the UCh.

well i forgot to change the plip from the 172 cup key onto my 1.2 16V key (which i'm using to run the car, because i still have the 1.2 16V barrel with 172 cup decoder and 172cup UCH)

  172 cup'd extreme
When the new key was coded it must have been done in the car with a clip.
The flashing red light means the imobilser is active ie the key is programmed or has the wrong code. if there was a break in the wire from the decoder then light wont flash.
there are 3 wires one is power (fuse s28 in the interior fuse box) then there is a brown wire going to the uch and a black wire going to earth.

If your sure the key has been programmed correctly- check the fuse then the earth points in the car.

yeah we changed the blade part of the key to match the barrell but the black plip bit is the new part, the break in the wire has been fixed now(to my knowledge) and the red light comes on when u turn it. so what ur saying is if there was a break in the wire the red light wouldnt come on so that kinda eliminates that, and it must be down to the key, fuse or earthing points. ive had 1 guy from renault try coding the key the first time then another guy tried doing it with all the codes i had from matt but still the same problem so ill try another diagnostic company, 3rd time lucky! thanks for the help.....

Three lines.

On the sensor theres three lines should be marked up as 2,3 and 4

2 is black in colour and goes to the earth on the top of the dashbaord check the connection for a good earth with ohms meter etc.
3 is the red wire its the line which goes to the F28 2amp fuse on the passenger side dashboard.
4 is the brown wire it goes to connector number 8 on the UCH

thanks edde, we'll look into it asap, but the diagnostic guy reckons he cant code the key for an unknown reason, brand new key, u ever come accross that b4? i think he said due 2 the break in the wire which is now fixed but still wont let him code the key with the codes
