best brake pads?

  audi a6 3.0tdi
my brakes are starting to feel a bit shite now after a few thousand miles of abuse so i need to change the pads. whats the best pads to change too and how much are they?

forgot to say i do a lot of driving round backroads so fast road pads would be prefered

I'd stick with stock there very good realy check your fluid etc check the pads for cracking etc.

Otherwise I'd say try green stuff or if you realy have the money DSD2500's but IMo you need to find out what the problem is as stock realy are a great pad IMO.

the problem will be 16000 miles of hard driving with no pad change lol. do you not think i would notice much difference if i changed to green stuff pads over standard ones?. while i'm at it i think i will will change the brake fluid to dot 5.1 and get some braided hoses. the disks are fine i think, i'll check them when the cars in bits.

Arr right well 16k could hve worn them down.

You'll notice a difference yep.

Forget 5.1, DOT 4 is more than enough. 5.1 needs changing to much to be any use.

Disks should always be changed with pads IMO regardless of condition as its a good base.

right i'll do a full overhall with disks, pads and braided hoses i didn't know 5.1 needed changing more often i'll stick to normal stuff then. thank you for your help :)

Stock pads are 'ok'

Id go for ds2500's, well worth it on the back roads. Get some new disks (brembo hc are good), braided hoses (this makes a huge difference to pedal feel) and dot 4 fluid.

just looked up the ds2500 and it says for cars made after 2000 they are only to be used on track. would this not make you fail an mot

Nope they won't check, they are a race only pads so infact illegal for road use realy but its not problem. Only real problem ius the wear the disks more and squeek a bit when cold.

taken from the site

"They are also very driver friendly having excellent pedal modulation and feel. Please remember these pads are not reg 90 approved and therefore any car made later than 2000 should only use these pads on track!"

can't see it being a problem really, who's going to know?

think i'll stick with standard pads and just change them more often. i could have three sets of standard pads for the price of those ds2500 lol

may be worth the extra money then i'll do anything to keep being quicker than my mate round the backroads lol. we are a bit competative so any little advantages are a bonus :)

i spend hours practicing i've done 16000 miles in six months and only live four miles from work lol but as you said some track work wouldn't do me any harm

I ve always been a believer in OEM brakes. (always pug 19 gti's)
When i got the cup thought the brakes were s**t hot (std ren). When the car went for MOT it needed brake pads. I was planning on changing the disks and pads with OEM item at a latter date, so i just got some cheapo pads to get it through the MOT.
The "cheapo" pads seem better than the renault items! No more fade than the renault ones (when thet get very hot) and loads less brake dust on the wheels..
I wouldn't of believed it myself but i s**t you not.. QH £18

I've come to love my Pagid Blues. At £120-£140 a pop they're not cheap...but around Bedford with 3 100mph+ stops in just over 2 minutes lap after lap they perform without fault.

They last forever too - mine have covered about 30,000 miles now and there's still a good 5-6mm left. Not hard on discs either, as only changed to my 3rd set of front discs recently, and that was at 84,000 miles.

If you're not a track wh0re though, DS2500s are fine.

Yep. Perform from stone-cold with no issues at all.

Really surprised me when I first got them, I thought for something used in touring cars they'd need a little heat first...but no, windscreen headbutting right from the beginning.
