Hi guys,
The time has come around to service my 2005 1.2 16v and rather than replace the standard items like for like at main dealer money, I'd rather replace them with quality items which wouldn't void the warentee (or at least would be hard to detect or easy -less than 2 hours- to remove).
I reckon that at 36k its time to have a good service at carlton and check over to make sure that nothing is lurking that would prove to be an issue later. So what I want to do is replace the plugs & leads, filter, disks & pads and posibly the back box should funds allow- 500 miles BEFORE the serivce to allow them to be bedded in nicely when it goes in.
The questions that I would like to ask you guys are:
1. Are there any direct replacement filters for a 2005 05 reg 1.2 16v to go inside the original airbox? The cold airflow seems good enough not to have to mess with a full kit. (as post '04 new induction system introduced)
2. Does anyone do a decent set of performance plugs and leads?
3. Are the Sebring boxes that are sprouting up all over the place on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-CLIO-...8QQihZ002QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) the same ones as came in the sports pack from the dealers? (anyone got one?)
4. Are there any decent gains to be had with this lot? (I know it won't realistically add more than 5bhp or 5lbft- but will it make the car a little easier to pull from low-mid range?)
5. Are EBC Greenstuffs and EBC turbo grooves the way forward with brakes- or are there any good combos that work well on a clio running standard steels and suspension? NB. Not too heavy though don't want to increase the unsprung weight.
6. I'm not too sure if a clio has an adaptive ecu (as per my smart which took 300 miles or a hard software reset to respond to any modifications)- could someone check this out for me?
I'm really not into massive modifications, so i'd like to keep it all as standard as possible, but with my experience with my smart has told me that spending good money on mild performance products is worthwhile as they tend to last longer. But my experience outside of the smart world is very limitied so please feel free to tell me that i'm being a muppet.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions i'd be interested in hears them, but please bear in mind that this is my everyday driver and has to be 100% reliable and sensible as I sometimes have to transport children as part of my work, so unfortunatly things like suspension and body modifications are a no no.
Cheers guys.
Dave
