172 ph1 driveshaft buy and fit?

how much would i be expecting to pay for buying and fitting a 172 driveshaft (passenger side ballache one)? i know u have to drain the oil on that side? is it much harder than doin drivers side and more ££££?

im satarting to think that this is infact the passenger side driveshaft. does this make sense that it could be that? i think its a CV but doesnt pass side have 2 CV's? one in the box?

mine knocks on accel and braking and also does the same dull knock when turning on spot but only to the left and knocks at same point (just before it hits full lock). feels like something pulling/loose.

get it from gsf then.. buy a haynes manual.

all ye gotta do is take the hub nut off, split the hub/strut take out the 3 10mm bolts holding the gaitor to the box and catch the oil.
Get the shaft out and replace with new one, tighten the bolts. locate the spline into hub and fire the bolts to the strut back in, hub nut on..

replace oil in gearbox.

it's got 3 roller bearings in the box which allow for some movement.

ah right cheers. so if these bearings on the shaft that sit in the box are gone then this cud be the cause of knock/bang when i brake accelerate?

seriously it is a really easy job.. i've done 3 gearboxes in k4m's now and i guess the 172 aint any different..

as soon as you look at the driveshaft you'll know if the roller bearings are fecked!

Yep they'll charge you to diagnose the problem.

roller bearing came off on my passengers side one, roller pins went into the box, locked it, snapped lower dogbone mount out the gearbox, ripped the flexi off.

needed...
new gearbox
new driveshaft
new gearbox mount
gearbox oil
new cat

done the work myself to save labour but parts alone were costly!

well my head battered at mo. i dont actually know what is wrong with it and dont know where in manc city centre to take it (where i work)!
symptoms are:

1. knocking coming from footwell area (feels like middle but more to pass side of it) - does it on acceleration in 1st from standing and whenever i come to a halt from braking.

2. similar noise to wheel bearings - drones really bad at 70mph. constant drone tho, no variance with revs only speed of car - doesnt alter when goin thru the gears and i have taken the car out of gear on motorway at 70 and put in neutral for a second and noise stays same - so cant be gearbox but still shaft??

3. when on motorway, if i brake the steering wheel flicks to the pass side and when accelerate again it flicks back to drivers side and for 1 second the steering feels a bit floaty.

PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!

or does someone know a decent garage in salford quays/old trafford area of manchester?!

I am curious if this knocking is similar to mine. Mine knocks when braking at low speed or right after I release the acceleration pedal.

I am going to change whole suspension arm on driver side. I also ordered the anti-roll bar bushes and wheel bearing as well. Driveshaft?? What should I do?? Ball joint or driver shaft??

CAN STILL BE INPUT SHAFT ON GEARBOX
Most likely to be wheel bearing tho. (jack the car up and grab the wheel and rattle it from side to side and top to bottom, there shouldn't be a lot of play, if there is the bearings are shot.

my drivers side cv is away n i got a new shaft from renualt for £90 which i didnt think was bad, n i'l fit it myself. handy enuf

yeah i already done drivers side driveshaft. CV went. £70 from GSF and £50 to fit. i cant do things like that chaps, i will have a go at changing a wheel thats ur lot!
