i wouldn't get the 64bit version if you have only got a 32bit cpu

If you got a 64bit cpu I would get the 64 bit vista

Only bother with the 64bit if you have applications which have the threading to take advantage (specifically 3DSmax and Photoshop). If you don't use either of these very heavily I really wouldn't bother. There are no other improvements to be had, and there are tons more program compatibility problems. I'd play safe with 32 tbh.
