Problem?

  172 MKII FF
Hi,

I reversed the car out of my garage today and noticed when parking up a leak on the offside of the car, the liquid was yellow, like piss.

Is this a problem? A thought it could have been a cat which had pissed on a ledge under the car or something. It didn't seem to be doing it when I got to my destination. It just dripped a little setting off and then stopped.

if the liquid is still there, dab your finger in it and give it a taste, if its got a sweet taste it could be your anti-freeze coolant mixture. if it tastes sour someones taking the piss and had a piss. (not that i know what piss tastes like!)

What do I do if it's the anti-freeze coolant mixture?

Id top it up with coolant and get down to ur garage and check it out as to why its losing water!

cud possibly be the cv boot joint in ur drive shaft (in case its none of the others)

the grease can be a yellow/green colour wen it bursts

Coolant can be all sorts of colours, ive had blue, yellow, orange. they tend to make them bright colours so people dnt mistake it for other liquids

If this is my cooland should i not notice any change in the engine temperature sensor - it stays at the normal half way line.

When I took it in the get the offside ball joint replaced yesterday, surely they would have noticed aa fault with anything in that area.

I filled the water tank up to max last night and started the car, as soon as the engine started it went straight down to min - is this normal?

I've left a tray under the car tonight so i'll see in a bit if it has leaked again.

Could this be an expensive repair if it is the engine coolant leaking?

There seems to be a slight amount of steam rising from around the radiator area and water at the bottom of it. But the termpareature of the car is fine.

Definetly sounds like a coolant leak. Take it to a garage to get them to pressurise the coolant system, this should find the leak.

Aparently it is the bottom right of my radiator that has corroded and is leaking.

The mechanic wanted £160 + VAT for a radiator, which I thought was expensive, especially after reading on here they where £96 + VAT. So I got onto Reno and asked them how much. Ordered the rad and pick it up from Reno tomorrow as theres was well cheaper, then get him to fit it for 2 hours labour.

This car is very unlucky, i've spent so much on it since getting it 6 month ago.

but dont you just love it!

mines the same with repair costs. if it were any other car, i probably would have flogged it by now.

Yes it is definately a love hate relationship. I feel embarrassed sometimes though because people I know have shitty bangers and they sail through their MOT's, never have a problem and i've had mine for 6 month and every month had to fork out.

I think the car is cursed. Still got to get it through it's MOT later on this week.

give it a blast down the motorway to warm the cat up, it helps to reduce emissions when its nice and hot.

Yeah i've been told that. At the time I think my manifold to cat gasket had just failed because there was an odd noise when taking it. I'm hoping this contributed to false readings. I've also put some cat cleaner in and ragged that through the system.
