Throttle boddies - question to all you tuning companies

you'll still struggle to get below 98db, i've had to bribe the tower before!!
its not exhaust noise thats the problem, its induction noise with TB's
we went past the tower at donnington park at 105db in noisy mode
with a quiet really restrictive rear box and a silencer in place of the decat it went past at 103db
with an airbox over the ITB's we got it down to 99/100db and lost over 1sec per lap

our 182 demo is 94db static noise on 2/3 throttle at the exhaust, with a decat.
intake on an itb car is loud, but it depends if they are worried by drive by, usually on race days they dont care... track days are a different issue..

It's such a non problem. Very easy to solve.

i am fully aware of what an airbox can and cant do.
once again i used to run one on my saxo, with the lid off it was touch and go on some tracks, with the lid on there was no issues.
ok you lost approx 5bhp.... but who cares when your just out on track having fun?
So you have to sacrifice a bit of power, does it really matter hwen its not competitive?
as for taking 18 months to solve the issue... ummm... cant see how making an air box would take that long.
my last few posts are not personal towards you fred, just my opinions on the various subjects, so try not take it to heart, chum!

Why are Clio engines (I am asumming F4R here) different to other engines? Having supplied hundreds of TB kits and mapped far more, there are many methods of reducing induction noise. The F4R doesn't seem particularly noisy on the RR, especially compared to say the Honda K20A2 engine that we've never had a noise eligibility problem with.
After all, a TB setup with a sealed airbox when at WOT is almost the same as a plenum chamber system with a single TB. So why would it be noisier?
Also an airbox if well designed will not necesarily lose power. It becomes part of the tuned length of the induction system and can be used as a tuning tool in a similar way to cam timing, moving the torque curve around to suit the use of the vehicle. We recently mapped a completely loony Duratec 2.3L race engine that made silly power. With the airbox fitted it made 7 bhp more at the peak and more torque accross the part of the rev range that we would be using. It was a hell of a lot quieter aswell!
Because a clarinet and a saxophone have totally different tuned lengths. They resonate at different frequencies and have different harmonics.
Basically all modern 2L 16V 4 cyl engines are similar in layout so will have similar noise levels. Differences due to bore/stroke relationships and rev range will have a difference, but the F4R is not exactly a screamer normally. There is one big difference between the modified engines though, and it is one that on the F4R can easily be modified to massively reduce induction noise. And no I am not putting it in print if this is something that is not generally known!

my williams ran weber bodies and alpha+ ecu. never really had it mapped to my car, as the kit came off another williams, wayne at chip wizards would have been my personal choice to map it, but i never really got round to getting it done. it will be back next year when i have a bit more time and money to get it properly sorted. never had any issues with the ecu side of things tho.
