whats wrong with my car

started my car up tonight, didnt sound right, and it was shaking through the gear knob and the front (if that makes sense)

revved it a bit and a really wierd smell (like egg) was coming from the car and also it didnt sound like it was revving as normal, the exhaust is also making like a ticking rattle noise.

tried moving it and it didnt seem to have any revs at all and couldnt get it to move very fast.

what could be the problem, could it be the cat at the front and how much am i looking at paying for the repair

mate i have exactly th same problem as wat u described mate wit th revs n shakin..
but mine stalls afta shakin when i start it up and every now and again afta a journey when i stop my car it smells of egg wel bad?! :S

you sometimes get the sulphur smell if you get a modern car boot it infront of you on the motorway....well, I use it as an excuse every time I fart in the car anyway.
I had a golf and when the centre section went you could feel it through the gears. I would imagine you can't repair a cat, i could be wrong though. If it does turn out to be the cat I would phone gsf or a few exhaust specialists before renault, they are not cheap iirc.

What engine? If it's the 1.4 or 1.6 I'd bet mt life on 1 or more of the coils being knackered. The shaking and lack of power is because a cylinder or 2 is'nt firing. Stupidly common..... Do a search.

The RAC man said a similar thing when he came out to look at my house mates Shitroen C3 for the 4th time this week.

Well if your not Mechically mindied take it to a Dealer to get it diag'd then go from there.

Tho Dave tends to know his s**t , but you dont splash out on a coil pack straight away

my local stealer charges £77 quid just to look at it, and then no doubt they will say this, that and everything else will need doing.

Go to a scrapyard and ask if you can try a coilpack on your car to see if it's that. If it is they will probably ask for £20. I doubt coiplack will show up on CLiP as it's is sensor related.

had this problem before , basically one of your ht leads is breaking down causing you to only work on 3 .

depends on if its a ht lead , coil pack problem tbh or something more serious .

with all the wet weather , could be dampness on the leads , i would clean the ht leads 1st and try again .

Coiplack can be had cheap from a scrapyard as I said mate. Where in the midlands are you based? Cliospares isn't far from you.
Leads are circa £20 from Halfords.
