misfire?

when a went to get the exhaust fitted the guy at c+c said he thought there was a slight misfire. how do a get this checked? and what would the signs of it be

get it on a computer and check the lambda readings when driving round.

just seen your reply there mate,

is that a common problem with them? or could it be something as simple as a spark plug etc

im not mechanically minded but a few friends will be able to help me on it, is it best to get it on a diagnostics?

Can you tell if it just missfires when its idling or throughout the rev range?

Its worth checking the sparkplugs, check the ht leads, and injectors. If its a 172mk1 try changing the fuel filter.

seems just to be when idiling can hear it pop at the exhaust every now and again oh and its a ph2 172 other than that the car seems to run fine

It won't be missfiring, its just how then run cold/idle.

ahhh, it happens hot or cold but can usually hear it when idiling, il see if i can get a wee video up to show it. just want to make sure its not missfiring but youve cheered me up a bit lol

Mine does this and has done since I owned it. I wouldn't worry about it though, I thought exactly the same as you as well at first.
I am still on the original exhaust and the car is now 5 year old with 36k.

They sound crap on idle when my old man drove it he also said it was missfiring on idle! (was fine lol)
