What amp rating do I need?

Just got this new Alpine SWE 1041 sub. It is 200w RMS, 4 ohm. I noticed that the box had two sets of speaker terminals on the side :S So I unscrewed the sub to take a look inside and found that all four wires were connected to the sub!

So do I need an amp which can provide 2 channels of 100w RMS at 4ohm?
Or 2 channels of 100w RMS at 2ohm?

From memory of a few years ago, my sub had 2x negative and 2x positive but as standard there was a metal clip connecting one of those positives to one of those negatives.

I would wire one negative on the box to one positive on the box and then have a single channel 200W amp running to the free negative and positive. I wouldn't hook up 2 channels to that cos the left and right bass are not always equal and it'll sound odd. Always one channel for a sub coming from the left channel.

that doesn't look like a dual voice coil sub otherwise it would have 2 sets of wires coming from the terminals of the sub to the actual cone,also dvc subs usually have beefier connectors than that,as said manufacturers often use terminals like that for ease of connector mounting on the box,the box you have looks like its just been made to house a dual voice coil sub if needed.

as for the amp i'd be looking at some kind of 2 channel with a 3-400watt rating,that should give around 150-200watts rms to the sub.

i'd get a 2-channel amp that can be bridged into 4 ohms and give about 300 watts RMS

Actually I agree, its not DVC. I just realised both sets of wires go to the same terminal. If it was DVC then there would be 2 pairs of connectors on the sub. The download on this page http://www.retrevo.com/search/v2/js...bb935732dae47a86d691868a6e03ed&q=JBL+GTO1202D shows on page 3 what a DVC sub connections would look like.

Laingo, bi-wiring is for connecting directly to each individul speaker, eg. one connection direct to tweeter, one connection direct to mid-range.

Its sill to have it wired like that tbh, just unconnect one set and run it on a 4ohm mono block would be the simplest thing or to bridge it over a 2 channel but i dont see the point in that

Haven't seen anywhere else that says its dual. This site says its single:

In ruffneck's 4th pic, looks like only one terminal on sub so SVC.

So basically I should only run one channel.

Is it necessary to disconnect one set of pos and neg from the sub? If I just run speaker wire to one set of terminals (200w RMS 4 ohm) Will it have the same effect? Or do I literally have to pull one pos and one neg off the back of the sub?

Yeah that amp looks like it'd do well.

Yeah run the speaker outs from the amp to just one pair of the connectors on the sub box. But I would disconnect the wires from the other connector. No need to take them off the sub itself but disconnect from box terminals and use electrical tape to seal them off, otherwise a current may run through them if they get connected.
