Retrimming doorcards

  172 & RSi
I want to cover the fabric part on my door cards in another style to match what I'm doing with the interior, my car is a MK2 PH1 btw.

Just wondered if anyones done this and what the best way to go about it is? Can the fabric part on the original doorcards be removed to make it easier to retrim or do I just have to work around it? How would you go about it if you wanted to do this?

Anyone got any advice or links or anything? Nothing seems to come up after over an hour of searching, I've found a couple of threads that mention it, but no pics or actual solid answers to my questions.

Please someone point me in the right direction.

Cheers

good idea actually might have to give it a go, i assume you just take off the door card and maybe there is screws on the inside holding it in, or it might just pull off?

on the rear cards the material section pops out with quite a bit of force and patience... not sure on the fronts

i am looking at doing the same

Is the piece with the fabric attached a seperate bit to the rest of the door card?

i have stripped the material of my front door cards as i wanted them smooth . It takes hours to do as its some kinds really strong glue but a few hours on eack door card with a stanley knife balde should sort it . other wise mine are for sale already stripped and ready for fabric/paint.

might just do mine in black or dark grey cloth material, i think ill experiment getting the back ones off first as they are easy i think

Yeah the back ones look easy enough, I'm just worried about the fronts.

I read somewhere that the best course of action would be to cut the material pretty much to size, stick it with spray adhesive and then wedge the overlapping bit down with a butter knife, doesn't sound too convincing to me though??

Any other ideas anyone?

Middle of door card is definatly glued on, but onto legs so to speak, so when you yank, unless you yank square, it will never sit back clean again!
