hi all, looking to get a roll cage for my ph 1 172, where is about to get them from and what do people recomend? i dnt want a show cage a want a strutural bolt or weld in full cage possibly with door bars if it has them. ive put it in here under suspension as its a structural thing but mods move it if you feel the need

Safety Devices, but from what I've heard, you can't go direct. Think Mark Fish is the official supplier. But I also think SM_WRC on here had one and has changed to a different brand? Don't quote me on it, but if I'm right I'd like to know the reason!

you could look at the OMP range

this one seems to fit the brief :D

dnt want to go to the exstent of cutting through the bulk head and would like to keep the dash intact if possible, that omp one looks way overkill for me lol

OMP do sell less OTT cages too. Have a look in the Demon Tweeks motorsport catalogue for options. Sure they do a 6 point bolt in. If you haven't got the catalogue, let me know and I'll take a look.

Ok, options are:

Sparco - standard 6 point bolt in cage with door bars, E255 steel, unpainted (26kg) Tweeks part number 00723137 = £339.00 + VAT

OMP - 10 point bolt in cage with door bars, material Fe45 (32kg) Tweeks part number AB/105P/220 = £365.29 + VAT

Safety Devices - speak to Mark Fish, he had some in stock last time I was there.

Both OMP and Sparco do other variations in cage design and material, they range up to £795 + VAT. Tweeks also sell Custom cages, but the one listed for the Clio is international spec. and costs £843 + VAT in T45.

Hope that helps!

legend, cheers man, will call mark fisk 2mar and see what he recons

What did you decide mate?

I'm in exactly the same position, looking for a 'proper' cage for my ph1... (I did have a Caged MSV rear cage but time to upgrade to a proper one.)

If we end up going for the same thing, chance we could get a discount if we sort it together... :D

the safety devices cage is the way forward! fits in without cutting anything. check the thread in the interior section under "Caged Group Buy" SM_WRC is talking to mark about the possibility of a group buy on the SD cage and the supply of just the rear hoop + diagional/harness bar for those that dont want a full cage.

sm_wrc never had a SD cage he has the Caged half cage one.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up! I was speaking to Mark the other day about the Safety Devices cage - he thinks there's a price increase on the way and was going to let me know when he finds out. Didn't know there was a group buy looming, so thanks!

The SD one is very similar to the OMP 10pt bolt in. Haven't got any pics of it in the car but here is the layout. Doesn't penetrate the dash

Demon Tweaks have it listed at £410 + £33 Shipping + VAT

This is the cage that I am close to committing to...

It defo doesn't need the dash cutting (it comes down in front of it like the Safety Devices cage).

I have been told that the SD cage is a better fit (i.e. closer to the shell) than the OMP and Sparco options - due to Mark Fish's input into the design (but SD cages get knocked out normally by Mark at £750 + VAT & delivery).

That said, SD cages are powdercoated whereas the OMP (& Sparco) need painting / powdercoating...

This then raises my biggest query (which may be a stupid question!) but... If you have the cage powdercoated before re-fitting to the car, how do you then weld in the door bars (I understand they need welding in - and I would defo want / need them) after all the tubes have been p/coated??

Can anyone explain?? :o

Baggers, you can get weld on clamps for door bars so you can bolt them in and out. I may have made that up but Im sure you could get someone to make something similar.

hey, no decision yet, spoke to mark fish today, was a real friendly bloke, said before i make a decision on any cage give him a call as hes worked on alot of them, first time ive spoke to him and ive never spent any money there either, ace customer service, downside of the convo was the price on a saftey devices cage, looking at about 775+vat plus delivery. guna look elswhere i think

SD cages are expensive but they are very very good.

Have a custom one in my track car... albeit slightly added to now

Mate, I had exactly the same experience, Mark seems a genuinely top guy, defo knows his onions...

Only thing is, his cages are double the price and would need delivering from the wrong end of the country for me :dapprove:

And... It appears the price has gone up £25 + VAT since he quoted me :(

I think we're thinking exactly the same thing dude!

Hi mate, did you sort a cage yet?

Cheers, Baggers.

Come on Baggers bite the bullet and buy an SD cage.... then when you don't like it, I shall gladly buy it off you for 25% of the original price?

You know it makes sense ;)
