buying ph 2 mk 1 172 16 v what to look out for etc ?

fell in love with one today only problem was some squeeking from the engine when revving . i said this would be a condition of sale that its sorted , he said it sounds like the fanbelt and he will get it changed . does this sound about right ?

engine mounts/gear box mount the car will vibrate hard when you accelerate in first gear, rear shock because they can pop so the fluid leaks out and just to be sure check the spare wheel to see if its had a hammering because i didnt and when i took the spare wheel out it looked like it had been used round the nurburgring lol not sure about any thing else but those was the problems i had with mine mate

MK2 Phase 1 mate (title error)
Check all the project threads as theres loads of ph1's in there. They seem to be a reliable car from what this sites opinion is. If i had to buy a sport it would be a Phase 1.
Personally i always take a pressure tester down (with every car as it saved me from buying a mini with no piston rings), check tyre wear, as said condition of suspension, and possible signs of a previous accident. Make sure you give it a long test drive ;)

yep, you want him to change it anyway if it hasnt been done, whats the mileage? Has it service history? Very important on cars like these.

part service history , 90, 000 miles £2695 . x plate . will change the fanbelt for me .

could get a lower mileage example for a few hundred more. Has the cam belt been done?

The tensioner pulleys might be the culprit for the noise, belt alone might not solve it.

They don't have a fanbelt. It's electric and transverse engined. They only have a timing belt and accessory belt.

The squeaking is normally the belt tensioners.

so if they dont have a fanbelt shall i tell him it must be the timing belt ?

Do you really think a seller would let you remove their inlet mani and preform a compression test?? ha ha ha. Its not like you can just wip the inlet mani off that easy! I would tell you to get lost. :D

Depends if you have a pencil pressure tester mate

im with you - sure you cold get a much lower miler car for only a little more wedge

Not if you ask someone thats already got a RS! ;) Would be worth it imo.. Or wait and hang around and see if one comes up in your neck of the wooods?

guy says if a pay a deposit and dont like it when i come view i can have it back :) so he will hold it a couple of weeks to come look .

Ok fella. Might be worth posting up though to see if a nice CS member will take a look for you.

Mate, I am in the exact same position as you right now. Just took a deposit on my dynamique, he's coming to collect it next week.

have 3-4k to play with and struggling to find anything worth my attention.

only things in our budget are high mileage or cat d or c's . and i know id rather have a high mileage than the other .

i've decided to pay for my insurance over the year now, so i can put more money toward a car.

there's some really nice cat d's but you can't get modified insurance on one under 2k.

that's why i'm thinking ph1 high mileage, with cambelt etc done.

what have you done about insurance?
