Anybody Doing the CCNA ?

  Shed.
How are you finding it? :) Lot to take in IMO.

Only on the 1st semester at the moment. Passed exam #1 / 60 but for some reason there were a few in our class who didnt. All theory at the moment, hoping i get to smester 2 where we actually learn how do configure everything.

Also id be interested to know what you intend to do after you have completed and passed (if you do) the final.

I had the option of doing a CCNA this year but chose an MCSE instead with some 2K8 MSITP modules on top.

Next on the list is RHCE me thinks. After looking at the syllabus of the CCNA most of it seems borderline redundant, certainly on daily basis. Can't get my head around the point of studying about old tech like ISDN lines....oh which there's a shed load!

What you trying to work towards? I aim eventually to move into VOIP/Unified messaging consultancy.

Dont know yet. General Network engineering i guess.

Im undecided as whether i should go into the ccnp (if i make it) or jump into an MCSE instead because i definately want a microsoft qualification. Actually i dont think the new curriculum is borderline redundant tbh. Ive yet to see what it has to offer but i think it could prove quite useful.

I intended to go CCNA CCNP and then an MCSE or whatever else Hull College had to offer at the time.

I've done the ICND1 & 2 courses through work, but i already work as network admin.
You're right about it being alot to take in, but then i did the ICND1 as online learning (did over 5 days) then the ICND2 5 day classroom based.
I'd been working with cisco kit for about 6 months before doing this so was familiar with the basic commands etc..
I really enjoyed the course & learn't quite a bit... lots more to learn now though!!

I have a voucher to do the exam, just gotta get round to doing it at some point. (I don't even think anyone here realises i've got a voucher, so i'm not expected to do the exam, just going to to it for myself really)
I'm pretty lucky in that i have a room full of current cisco routers & switches + WAAS & wireless equipment.

Saying that i have 70+ network sites plus our core network switches to "play" on.

I also found that most of the ccna is relevent to what i do in work so it's all good.

As for future stuff, i'm in the job now, so the next thing will be more cisco training i expect. I've done some MS & citrix courses too, but chose to go down the network route instead, although i still help out on the server side.

Learned to telnet today which wasnt exactly exciting especially when anyone in the right mind would block the neccessary ports.

Are there many jobs available then ?
