suspension help please

  200bhp itb'd iceberg
hi all i have a T reg renault clio 1.2 RN with a 172 engine and interior conversion its got standard springs and shocks on it but not sure if they are 172 sport suspension or the 1.2 suspension. i wana lower the car but dont no what to buy for it either springs and shocks for a 1.2 or a 172 :S bit confused please help lol

  A Flamin' Red one
You'll need to buy springs for a 172. You may be able to get away with 1.6 springs I think (don't quote me though!) but it's all down to engine weight and spring ratings. Springs for a 1.2 aren't rated according to the weight of the 2.0 engine...

yeh i understand that but i want the shocks aswell and was just wundering if the 172 shocks wud fit in the struts of the 1.2?

A shock and a strut is the same thing. I assume you are concerned about the hub carrier? best thing to do is measure the bolt spacing on the bottom of the strut leg. TBH it should have had a full conversion done, the track is different on a 172 as well, has the car had the 1*2 wings and bodywork fitted?

no it hasnt had the bodywork fitted just engine loom gearbix etc then interior and dash bord it has bigger discs on the front and bigger drums on the rear the bloke i got the car off didnt do the conversion an didnt no much about it to be honest so im a bit of a newbie to it all i looked at thge rear springs an they have been changed looks like 40mm but not too sure the fronts look standard tho

Sounds like the type of car I'd walk away from personally. Best to measure the bolt spacing on the bottom of the front struts that will clear up what hub carriers are fitted.
