HELP! My dipstick has snapped off in the hole!

The yellow end came off in my hand and the metal 'thing' slid down in the hole. I can't get it out!!

WTF do I do now?!

Just a guess, but I'd imagine starting the car would be a bad idea. Head off, then fish it out??

My dad (mechanic) has a thing which is like an old radio aerial which has a magnet on the end, get one of them and send it down! Useful for picking up bolts which are dropped etc too

It will do no damage Dan, like said try the magnet. or as Fred said try pulling off the tube

yeah, pretty tight though, not easy to remove without bending it.

magnet might work if you can get a small one (i have a few but they're all bigger than the tube). Worst case it's sump off, which isn't really that bad but it's a big-ish job for just getting the dipstick out
