Decat?

  clio 182
Hey guys, im just toying with the idea of decatting my 182, i jus want to know a few things first tho before i do it, so if you lot would be willing to answer some of my questions it will be greatly appreciated :) lol

firstly, which decat would i get if i have the ultra performance ktec exhaust fitted?

does decatting make that much of a difference to power, torque?

how insurance friendly isit?

isit illegal to do? will cops pull me over form it?

and lastly, how loud will it make the car?

Thanks guys!

I'd go for a ktec decat pipe, as your running a ktec exhaust system.

A little bit more power and torque, some say as much as 7bhp [that's debatable though]

Insurance increase, if any depends on who your with.

Police won't pull you over

It will make the car a lot louder, i'm not decating mine untill i get another more sensible car [daliy driver]

the one im looking at is the silenced decat one, so it wont make it any louder, will the warning light stay on if i have it done?

De-cat was one of my fav mods, on the 182's there a piss of piss to fit ;)... 172's on the other hand are a nightmare, specially if your doing it with out a ramp :dapprove:

I found the decat really changes the way the car feels, the extra torque is very handy for below 5k & the rasp noise ... ££ for power you cant beat them, even better when you have a friendly MOT centre that lets them through for £20 :approve:

That's the only thing I'm worried about, the hassle and expensive of changing it over everytime you need an MOT :quiet:

they're going to be so much easier to change over on a 182 and you can buy a new sealing ring for less than a fiver

kayzee theres no expence in chainging it if u do it urself, it litterally takes 10 minutes to swap them over urself, so dont let that put u off

DO IT! I found you lose less revs when changing gear which is cool. It will be a lot louder but the sound is unbelievable with my yozza!

My brother was pulled over in his saxo by a policeman with a Vosa inspector and he picked up on the decat within seconds, 15 days to remove it or invalid MoT :dapprove:

182s are so much easier than 172s.

Go for it. As said above, if you get nicked just swop your cat back onto it and forget the whole thing ever happened.

got a janspeed system with the decat on mine, is louder but only when you're pushing hard! decat's let the car rev more freely, whereas a sports cat holds the revs back still, but apparently gives more topend torque. and changing it, like said, is a simple job and you only have to do it once a year! damn vosa, only ever come across them once round here!

i'm confused; more topend or more torque ?

^^^^Sports cat?

One of the best mods ive done by far. I know its the wimps way out of a decat but I couldn't be doing with changing the 172 cat every year plus I got one off of ebay very cheap! Torque and power increase below 5k is impressive so a decat must be even better.

Seeing you have a 182 just get a decat its really easy to change!

i have had a decat on and off several times on my 182. its easy enough but a pain in the ass. not really worh it tbh. no 'real' gains. bit of noise, thats about it.

When I was looking at a decat people mentioned I'd lose torque.

Also, are there any benefits with a Sports cat over the standard cat because as standard its pretty free flowing anyway.

i have decat on standard exhaust and found its revs alot more freely and smoother power delivery lower down which smooths out the 5k kick!

I would like to know about sport cats, im toying with the idea for my 1.2. all i know is that they have 1/2 the number of cells in them so that flow is increased, how much by i dont know.
also would it pass a MOT test, as emissions will increase?
