Relatively cheap mods?

  172 cup
Hi,

I have absolutely no idea about the technical side of things btw. I bought a 172 cup with ecu remap, quickshift gear box, uprated cams, induction kit, filter, cool air intake and back box. Was wondering roughly what sort of power increases this would see and what relativeky cheap mods would see a further increase?? I am looking at a full exhaustt system for starters. Any reccomendations?

It depends how good the ecu remap is really.

Is it an open air induction kit or is it an enclosed one? Is it definately only the backbox that been replaced as most people would have a stainless system from the cat back?

As said a decat would probably be the next step along with matched inlets and probably another remap.

if it doesn't have a full exhaust then it most likely doesn't have cams dude, did you see a receipt for the cams/map when you bought it?

Why the stock exhuast is upto running an engine with cams. I would be more supprissed if it has only had an aftermarket backbox and not a full cat back system as the stock one would have fallen off long ago.

As far as I'm aware it has cams but as I said I'm gay a bit clueless. The mid section of the ehaust was replaced about 6 mnths b4 i got it and the guy i bought it from said it was just a back box. Have his no somewhere to ask him. Car revs to nearly 8000, group n remap apparently? The induction kit is fully closed I believe.

yeah i'm not saying it's not up to it. Just that an aftermarket exhaust is normally fitted first to facilitate the gains from cams. People who fit backboxes normally have no idea about real car tuning and buy everything from Halfords. Last time i checked for the schrick stand at halfords it was non existent.

edit- ahhhh-map & 8000rpm sounds a little more promising. If it has cams then individual throttle bodies are the next logical progression, or matched inlets.

you would definatly benefit from a full stainless exhaust and de-cat though

I'm not sure the group_n remap is capable of running cams properly. Also the rev limiter will probably be 7800rpm. Best not to take it that high too often though as its not good for it!

Wouldnt take it to the limiter too much really, just the odd time ;)

I think I may look at a full ss exhaust and see where I go from there. Will a decat ehaust fail an emissions test on the MOT?
