If it was me i'd be showing my face in this thread, not hiding and looking quite suspect.

the car was up on jack when u came down so that aint no excuse :rasp:

and there is nnothing to say that the hole didnt happen while you where on the way home.

"Damp road and understeering along at 90 was awesome fun." - knowing there was an oil leek and your still driving like this ?

think every one has been a little to quick to point the finger the wrong direction if you ask me

blame on both sides i think tbh

Up on a jack? So? Is that enough room to stand under a car now is it?

Anyone with an IQ in double figures knows that didnt happen on the way back. Maybe the guy didnt know quite how bad it was, but he clearly wasnt honest about it all.

Driving it at 90? So? Thats what its built for.

Kieran has made himself look guilty by avoiding this thread. He should have been honest from the start.
 
Theres always two sides to a story, and as bad as that gearbox looks, it's wrong for so many people on here to jump to conclusions, based on one side of an arguement.

Having only seen a few photos, of the damage after it's happened, no one can comment on the state of the box before he picked it up except the two partys involved.

I say leave it to them to sort out between themselves.
 
I don't know how you didn't notice though, surely you would feel something was wrong.

I think the guy should at least post a response on here, making himself look guilty.

If he did it on purpose then he's a complete s**t tbh.
 
If the oil was spilled on the high way you'd have noticed it on the back of your car while washing it. Also leaving a piece of metal like that would have made some kind of noise on the highway.

I don't know if a piece of metal that size would even be able to get away from underneath the car without removing the plastic botom cover.
 
yea i think you would of herd it tw@t the underside of the car if it fell out during your drive home regardless to watch speed you were doing, but then on the other hand who says its the sellers fault tbf you both need to come to an agreement if he didnt know and is genuine about it then 50/50 it i might know someone selling a gearbox for a Ph1 sport soon

I'd consider driving at 90 in 5th on a motorway junction which is a long sweeping bend quite normal tbh hardly stressful on an engine which has gearing as tall as the clio's. I didn't set out to make it understeer its just the tyres fitted aren't brilliant in the damp. If i'd done a lap of Cadwell on the way home then that'd be a different story.

As for checking it. I had been told no more oil had leaked out so i took that as a good sign. I was told it'd been looked over and no leaks were found. I'd not been told the oil was gearbox oil so i just assumed it was cause by the relativly leaky F4R cam cover design. When i came to pick it up i checked the enigne for leaking the the places i suspected it to be (Rear cam cover seal, cam cover bolt heads, oil filter seal and gearbox over flow) You should remember me rocking the engine back and forth to see if i could see any major leaks as well as at the same time finding out the top gearbox mount was loose.

I am in no way new to these engines i even gave the owner a list of places to check for leaks. As well as asking to him check the oil levels before i came to pick it up.

I was followed most of the way home by my friend and co owner of the car in a transit van. I think he would have probably flashed me if he saw the diff casing and 3litres of gearbox oil fly at him on the M1 lol

I don't know why it wasn't whining either. Then again in my friends old 106 the gearset was buggered and the only thing keeping it together was the movement of the engine and the fact the car was rolling. When we stopped it litterally fell out of the casing.

As for this gearbox/diff Its probably due to the fact it was in 5th none stop on the way home basically. Its about the least stressed state (lowest torque and the lowest heat application) the gearbox can be in
 
that wouldn't of gone for more than 200 miles with no oil.

My avanti box dropped its oil at bedford, only lasted about 4 laps (we think) before it go so hot it melted half the loom over the box

When I met Kieran he seemed like a friendly chap, maybe a bit shy but didnt seem the type that would f**k someone over.

Sorry to hear about this though, would be interesting to hear what hes got to say though.
 
right then if you bunch of f**king c***s would just stop posting in this thread while i go through each post one by one and answer you all . sorry i havnt been on in the last 24 hrs , i WORK !!!! we dont all have the time to be on here every minute every day . i have only now found this thread . i will now start answering the posts .

If he knew then yes he's literally satan,

however the hole must have started as a crack, the crack might have wept a little whilst he owned the car and he might not have seen the crack. Then that chunk may have fallen out whilst you were driving, taking the rest of the oil with it.

Just playing devil's advocate before we all go on a witch hunt.

The best thing would be for keiran to show his face and tell us just how big that 3.1 litre puddle was.
