To the OP, i have that surround sound (Sony DV-DZ260) IIRC, and its a good system, I have it setup with a Sony KDL 40w4500 TV and a PS3 and for the price you pay (i got mine for £115) its good value for money.

If you plan to upgrade it all in 1 or 2 years, then you'd be a lunatic to get an all-in-one. If upgrades are around the corner, then you need a AV amp/reciever. Unless you enjoy throwing money away. Fact.

I have the sony system that you posted in the first post. Its good with the bravia tv and get some good quality sound but doesnt go that loud. I am also selling my old surround sound pioneer one PM if interested.

Yep, was referring to the Sony. The speakers are a bit plasticky but sound quality is surprisingly good. I stream music from my laptop to my PS3 and it sounds fine through it.

How do you do that? As in stream music?

Mate has just got one of these and its pretty impressive for the money and considering its 2.1. Also, you can get the additional speakers to make it 5.1 if you really wanted at a later date. Have to say just in 2.1 its very good.

If you can, do try to stretch for some seperates (i.e for £300 you could get a decent amp like the Sony STR-DG820 and a set of budget surround speakers like the Yamaha NSP110 that you could upgrade later). Best way to go IMO and I would imagine that setup would be night and day compared to an all in one Sony system.

Without being rude, most of these packages sound similar. As long as you use good cabling with it and set up is ok the sound would be fine.

Sorry to drag this up again, but i went to currys, comet, and pc world yesterday. Not intentional but was just over that way.

No i think all the systems i had a look @ looked shite.

Could someone give me some ideas for a discreet system ? I don't want all these big taking over the room style speakers, so much so that i am considering a 2.1/3.1 set up ? maybe going via separates ?

I have the DZ260, good system for the price (£150), but if I had the cash at the time I'd have gone for the IS10 in a heartbeat, it's simply awesome.

IIRC the rear speakers on the IS10 are wireless? Oh and under £300, where at?
