Less MPG using V-Power?

  200 Gordini
When taking it easy i get more MPG in the 182 using normal morrisons petrol.

Ive filled up with v-power looads now and the same still happens.

I've always believed v-power gives better miles to gallon aswel as better performance.

  corsa ecoflex
ive also noticed this...when i run v-power my mpg return is really bad.4-5 mpg less than when i use normal shell unleaded and i still drive the same

Stopped using Shell fuel. Riz mentioned he was getting worse mpg, I did a few tanks of bp and a few on shell, getting average 30miles less per tank out of shell than bp, tesco, esso. Super and normal unleaded, strange.

The local shell shut but another local garage (can't remember who it was now) was doing 98 ron a bit cheaper....it was a few weeks later but we noticed the MPG had dropped from low 30's to high 20's. The only thing different was the fuel so went back to V power and it went back up so it does make a difference either way

I just use Tesco now.....cheaper than BP or Shell

Can people read the post...

>> When taking it easy <<

Ivans got the idea.

BP ultimate does the same thing too.. do some cars react different to the 98ron or what?

I was going to see what tescos was like but ive been told its not the 99ron they say it is.

  Works...kind of...
There's stories around saying that Tesco 99 is 95 with octane booster (or similar) IIRC

BP Ultimate/V-Power are made specifically to be a 97/98 fuel.

esso do a higher ron too then?

Even on a motorway run it will be the same, maybe 2/3 less. Its around the streets it drops quite a lot

Filled mine with V-Power last fill up before last and it made no difference to anything, MPG performance etc.

I use to fill up with it regular when it was called Optimax and there was a slight performance increase compared to regular fuel, never took much notice of MPG back then so I can't really say if that was any better.

IIRC Tesco premium produces the most BHP in tests due to the additives and is the cheapest, but is relatively dirty as fuels go and it is not a pure 98 Ron fuel like shell/BP hence it is cheaper.

You'll find that you need to run atleast 3 tanks of the stuff consequtively to see any difference.

One tank between 95RON wont make a blind bit of difference in 99% of cases.

Mine runs better on tesco 99ron than ANYTHING else ! ! ;)

Shall i take my car to TCR lol ;)

Is dirty the right word? i mean, it wont be bad for my engine if i use it from now on will it?

I've done this experiment with Sainsbury's fuel.

I got 36mpg with 95 and 32mpg with 97.

It feels as though the car does drives better with 97ron in though.

Ive used nothing but v power in my 182 since Ive had it, Im doing min of 300 miles to a tank. Since the weathers got a lot warmer, Im doing a bit more now. My record is 370! Driving like a granny FTW! ;)

V power does help the car pull better but 10p+ a litre for less mpg isnt worth it..

I stuck some '99 in there yesterday and wasn't expecting much, but it did seem to enjoy revving after a few miles :) Probably the obecalp kicking in.

TRC magazine test between BP 102, Vpower and Tesco's backs this claim up ^^^

The 3 times in 8 years iv had to fill up with normal unleaded the car ran like a bag of s**t

Expect its all a bit like bolting up 17 inch wheels. Folk always claim it makes no difference but then when they switch back to 15'' the difference is a clear one

I found just the same thing with Sainsbury's 97 mpg. I don't bother with any of them anymore. The difference isn't worth the extra cost, although I would try the Tesco's 99 if they had it in my town:(.

Never understood the cost arguement for 95 muck over vpower tbh, its always 7p dearer than 95 so costs a few quid over the cost of a full tank of normal which imo isn't worth sweating over. Have one less pint and you're there.

At the same time whats the point on spending more on something that makes little to no difference? I'll keep my extra pint thanks;).
