Urgent Insurance Question

Do Named-Driver No Claims carry over to own policies?
Reason i ask is, i have recently taken out my first insurance policy (i have been on my parents the last 2 years) and because i havent crashed or anything, i assumed i had 2 years no claims. I have been told by someone that sometimes this doesnt carry over to when you go on your own. If this is true, what do i do now? and what will happen with my policy?:S:S:S

Unless your old policy specified "we give no claims to named drivers" then you have 0 no claims at all, with any company. But even if your insurance company did say the above, then these no claims can only be used with that company and cannot be moved onto a policy with any other company. On the bright side you have 2 years driving experience.

Basically i would advise now doing a lot of quotes with more companies with 0 years no claims, and then cancel your existing policy and go with the cheapest one. But you will have to pay cancell fee's or admin fees, your insurance at the moment is null and void, so if you drive you are essentially driving with no insurance.

ive gone with a different company, as the previous ones quoted a ridiculous price.
im with admiral now

I find Admiral spot on, been with them since buying my 182 3 years ago, Just about to change cars on Wednesday and the annual cost has shot down a few pennies due to the 197 being in a lower class

so what do i do now?
i paid the premium in full, will this mean that i lose all that money? or can they just change my details and then let me pay the extra amount?

^^they will more than likely change it and you will have to pay the additional premium (which will probably be quite alot), im with Admiral and they are usually pretty good with things like that

if you phone them 'out of hours' though you will probably get through to somebody foreign and probably wont have as much luck

If your moving from 1 insurance company to another and have paid in full you will get the money you paid on the remaining premium minus an admin/cancelation fee

If you stay with the same insurer you can update/change your policy at any time with a admin cost

(im no expert here just using my experiences)

Give them a ring asap, if closed do it at the first oppertunity you get.

Inform them of this, that the previous policy wasnt in your name so in effect you do not have 2 years NCB.

Tell them you were only a named driver on the policy.

They will more then likely up your premium heavily. So you may want to cancel the policy and look elsewhere.

hopefully not too much, ill be gutted if they do... i think £1000 for a year is robbing me enough to be fair!
but ill get on the phone to them after the bank holiday to see what happens with it...
