Oil breather or catcher

Anyone got any preferences? Pro's and cons to both?

I've found this shop on ebay that seems reasonable. Good prices on hoses too check out tht shop. Was thinking about the silicon tubing from this guy too. Much cheaper than samco

its to prevent any oil that comes from the breather pipe going into the throttle body.

yes..oil into the combustion chamber and onto valve stems can apparently slowly ruin an engine, so best if the oil can be caught in a catch tank so its just air being sucked into the throttle body not oil too!

In what was would you attach one of these to the engine.

From the breather at the back would you run a pipe to the catch tank, then on the other pipe put a filter?

Used to turbo cars

^^with these you can just get a 70mm elbow for about £25 (rahter then the £65 samco jobby) for the induction bend and have a catch tank for the oil so it dosn't re-circ back into the inlet to be burnt as per original design

I would personally go for the catch tank, a breather filter put there is just going to fill with oil and then be useless. If it needs to spit oil out that breather its for a reason so its best to give it somewhere to go rather then not letting it escape IMO

was kind of my thinking, but the cost of the catch tank is quite a bit more. I'm looking at saving weight too, so might just go for the £5 filters and replace if they get fooked. What you recon?

personally I wouldn't theres always the 'pikey' method of pipe into an empty coke can or something, dosn't have to have a filter on the end . . .

if you really felt the need for a filter, but if the end of the hose is well hidden from the elements its not really needed

I used to have my oil breather venting to air as Riley said. Just had it hanging down below the bumper on my old turbo car

I just ran a pipe from the oil breather at the bottom of the block, out down the side of the bumper

doesn't the oil vapour assist with keeping the throttle body lubricated etc? besides how much oil vapour/hot air do we think would actually come from the breather.

Take off you hose from the tb to the airbox and have a look, More than you think. It also wont be doing much for the inlet temps either.

it's more than you think. Sometimes i get a bad smell of oil, allthough mostly it's okay. I just put a breatherfilter on the end of the tube/pipe.

I think its 15mm inside and 19mm out. something like that. The webby on the first post is pretty cheap mate.

Just been on there and theres a 70mm Samco 90Deg Bend for under £30

Although it doesnt say whether 70mm is Inner Diameter or OD.

Sorry to revive this thread.

With the catch tanks there are 2 hose fitments, 1 in 1 out i imagine.

Does anything need to be on the 'out' fitment or can it be left open.

Im using the one linked in the OP as my example.

yeah you have to leave one open, the pressure needs to escape, or it wont do your crankcase any good, or your oil pump.
