Tyre pressures r888

  Golf GTD Mk7
Anyone know the best tyre pressures front and rear for 195/55/15 r888's for track use? Both cold and hot if possible ;)

  M2 Competition
Experiment! Put them at a round about pressure (i run 4psi lower rear that front), and do a few laps. Try to keep the scrubbing at around half the sidewall. If its more, or less, adjust pressure to suit. Different tracks/ ambient pressures etc, will use different temperatures.

VEHICLE WEIGHT COLD PRESSURE HOT PRESSURE
Very Light < 800kg 17 - 22 psi 22 - 29 psi
Light 800kg - 1000kg 20 - 26 psi 24 - 32 psi
Heavy 1000kg - 1400kg 23 - 27 psi 28 - 40 psi
Very Heavy > 1400kg 27 - 35 psi 37 - 40 psi

Reduce Oversteer Reduce rear pressures or increase front pressures
Increase Oversteer Increase rear pressures or reduce front pressures
Reduce Understeer Reduce front pressures or increase rear pressures
Increase Understeer Increase front pressures or reduce rear pressures

Optimum tyre temp will be between 85-95c

In the dry I run, 2,2bar front and 2,8bar in the rear. I also run 205's in front and 195's in the rear. This reduces underster. If you use 195's all around try 3bar in the rear and 2,2bar in front (HOT).

In the wet (yes R888's are good in the wet) I increase pressure in front to 2,4-2,5bar and keep the rear at 2,6-2,8.

All these pressures are HOT pressures, a good tip is to write down outside temperature, track, conditions and starting COLD pressure each time on track in this way you get a feeling for the tires. Correct pressure is critical for grip and wear. Start out with 1,8-1,9 COLD in front and 2,4-2,5 COLD in the rear, start easy and gradually work heat in the tires for some laps, go in the pits and check pressure (let air out) repete this until you have even pressure on axles and stable pressure.

Good luck

Thanks guys, that's more what i was after. It's most likely going to be a cold damp/wet day tbh. So temps might not come into it as much really. Tread is just on road legal (not sure if this makes much difference). Complicated stuff if you really get into it I guess. No wonder F1 has people focused on this alone.

If it will be wet or cold (or both) you will have to increase the starting cold pressure in order to get temperature in the tires. In these conditions Id target front 2,5bar and rear at 2,8bar HOT. So Id probalbly start of with 2,3bar front and 2,7 in the rear go for some 10minutes gradually increasing up to 90% of full attac then go into pits and check the pressure. Hopefully you will now have some temperature in the tires due to the high pressure (more pressure = easier to get the temp up) and you may have to let some air out to match your target pressure.

Oh and one last thing... they are good in the wet but be aware of standing water on the track they dont like that ;)

What Tyre do ;)

:DHaha well sure no tire like that, but compared to these standard road tires work great in standing water. No big deal but it can get quite scary, you'll understand after trying them out.

Oulton is quite hilly and cambered, so fingers crossed there isn't much :S

Lolz. If it's wet, oulton can be a mare. Inside of the 1st corner gets a nice puddle that can catch you out. I just wouldn't bother with r888's in the wet.

Well I'll only be putting them on when I get there. Might do morning on pe2's and swap over at lunch. Have to see what the say holds
