I know this has been covered many times, but not with recent times.

Is there any alternatives to the Michelin Pilotsport 3 tyres in 195/50/15 now days?.

As these have been about many years, must be something just as good or better?.Just for road use.

I'll prolly stock with PS3s as they're pretty cheap from Costco during a promotion. But if I wanted to try something new I'd look at the Ultracs. I've run a set of AD08RS and they're not as good as PS3s imo, and they're expensive.

Unfortunately most of the newer UHP tyres aren't made in 15".

I’ve fitted them on both of mine because you know where you are with them.
There’s not exactly loads of choice.

My 1st choice these days is Avon ZV7 unless I find PS3's that are cheaper
It's a shame the Ginetta juniors stopped using PS3's as they were a bargain with the guy selling them after they'd been used for just 1 race weekend ☹️

I’ve tried all of these on my Clio 182 over the last 7 years, except the Continentals, which I hear are very good. Here are your choices:
  • Continental PremiumContact 6
  • Goodyear Eagle F1
  • Avon ZV7
  • Yokohama AD08RS
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 3
All good tyres, but it depends on your use. I switched from hybrid track tyres like the AD08R purely because of bumpy, uneven UK roads.

I remember pulling over for a pee in Hutton-le-Hole car park on a winter’s day. It was icy and sloped, and I had to ask locals to push me out. That’s the AD08R for you. Plus, that particular Clio’s suspension components weren’t in top shape, so the tramlining got scary at times.

For road use, all year-round, the PS3 gets my vote; if money’s tight, go for the ZV7. Save the AD08R for track days.
