Some mad offers on Steam at the minute....

The best bit about L4D 1+2 is that it's co-operative... I was hoping more games would catch on, but they didn't :(

There are easier ways to step out of the closet :p

Now, now sailor-boy! ;)

Agreed. I'm shocked Darren :rasp: Any reason you don't use WASD? Or just force of habit?

Probably down to habit more than anything. The first game I got for the PC was Aces of the Pacific back in '92 and the flying controls defaulted to the arrow keys. Then less than a year later when the Doom demo came out, they were either the same or lads and I at uni set them to be the same. I guess I've stuck to that ever since.

However, here's the real crack-pipe bit. The vast majority of infantry & vehicle games such as the Battlefield series, Just Cause 2, etc - I still use the WASD keys for the vehicles and the arrow keys for the infantry. That came about when one game I tried years back, wouldn't allow the mapping of the same key to do two roles - i.e walk forward and accelerate in a vehicle. I still use the seperate set of keys to this day and tbh, don't even realise I'm doing it, as my hand just moves between each grouping. Hey, I'm 36 now, some I'm classed as old and starting to have strange habits. ;)

I agree. So many people miss the gem that is L4D's gameplay. They simply think shoot, kill, reload, ad infinitum - then switch off after 20mins of trying it. However, get a decent group of players and set the difficulty to be quite high and its a really rewarding experience. Even in L4D2, my favourite all-rounder campaign is the original No Mercy one that culminates in the hospital escape. Holding off waves of zombies until that helicopter arrives is just great. :)

Get out of my head! Btw Darren, I believe I added you on Steam last night... not sure if you got the request.

My friend bought me Just Cause 2 in the sale for Christmas. I wasn't expecting much at all, but I'm loving it. Its a lot like Far Cry 2, but without the boring "I have to drive everywhere to get to an objective". Also, the ability to fly helicopters and planes is pretty cool.

I've played a good 7-8 hours on it already, and I've only completed 8%... The objectives get harder as you go along, so I'm pretty sure the game won't get boring.

Also, they discounted Arkham Asylum further... b*stards!

The lack of a decent save facility is beginning to grate on my nerves now. Pisses me off slightly when you get nailed and have to traverse 8kms or so of hostile road, just to get back to where you were. Surely there's a better way than that? :S

Press 4, E, then get an extraction to a nearby location? Its free too.

I've been saving everytime I complete a location and mission... still only on 17% :(

I trust you know that you can detach mounted miniguns, right? I told a clan mate that today and he raged.

Fecking annoying, ain't it? They do it so that any online game the user launches, their game response isn't slowed down by the download in the background.

If I'm downloading something in Steam and launch a game, I simply Alt+Tab back to the Steam library and click on Resume for the download to start again. Then Alt+tab back to the game.

It doesn't work on Just Cause 2 however as the game crashes if I do that - lol.

This game has to be played with a pad tbh.

I bought it too and love how easy it is to launch yourself into the air to get away from enemys or to gain an advantage over them etc.

Good point. It does make 'sense' for this to be played with a pad. I tried it with my 360 controller originally and where the peripheral controls of the game were excellent with it, I found the shooting and rapid targetting of the grappling hook really difficult. Switched to the K&M and it's Headshot Central, not forgetting it's now really easy to do stunt jumps and stuff. :)

Scratch that, just noticed Empire + Napoleon Total War for 15 quid, plus all DLC

Shiny

^^^ - combined, that could remove weeks of your life, if not months. If you like that Cookster, have you tried King Arthur? I got it when it was down to £3.74 in the sale. Not 100% as polished as the Total War offerings, but it's a very worthy alternative. The 'out-of-battle' screens have loads of depth and options to choose from.

I was tempted by King Arthur, but decided to go with what I know instead :p

So far since I bought Tropico 3 I've put just over 24 hours into it :p

yes, i've been doing the same, shame but cant really complain after some of the bargains!

I'm useless with a gamepad. I have one, but only use it for Street Fighter and racing games.

Just Cause 2 is 21% complete so far... I'm sure I've put in at least 12 hours. The Ular Boys missions are getting pretty difficult now :(

I wanted the Stalker bundle, it was the best seller in #1 for something like £2.99. Then when i refreshed the store it changed back to being £24!? My friend confirmed he was no longer seeing the discount either.

Bugs the hell out of me when they do that, its almost like they have a quota that once reached stops the heavy discount :(

It's the timing more than anything m8. They were meant to be 'Holiday Offers' and I guess they can't stretch the reduced pricing out into the New Year much as they will get flak off the developers.

I nabbed the NeverWinter Nights 2 Platinum Edition for £7.99 with about three hours left on the timer. Even during the download and refreshing the Store page, it had gone back to £14.99 after that.

Not wanting to get your back up even more, but I did nab some real bargains over the last week or so. :)

I didn't really see much value to be honest. Apart from Just Cause 2, Batman and some of the Tom Clancy games, everything else was pretty poor.

MoH was still too expensive, BLOPs didn't get reduced afaik... in fact, did any of the COD games get reduced? I only saw MW2 on sale. Blur wasn't reduced by enough for me to buy it.

Btw, I know I sound mega tight :rasp:

Edit: Before anyone says it, I'm talking mainly about FPSs... I don't play RTS/MMPORGs etc.

How are you dealing with Heat Level 3s and 4s at the minute? It's getting a little daft imo. Even grappling onto helos and taking them over is getting difficult with the other two helos and ground based forces sent in against you....

MoH should be a fiver at most. It's a huge let down/crock of s**te

Just Cause 2 is just causing me to be pissed off at the minute! I seemingly can't complete or even half-attempt a mission without incurring the wrath of half an air force. Coupled with the fact that the helos are stupidly accurate and ALWAYS fire, there's simply no way out of there other than fleeing.

I really don't hope I end up switching this game off for good, like I did with Red Faction 2 due to the exact same reasons. Trigger a response from the armed forces at this level and you're fcuked. Or you just play chicken. Which is alright every now and then, but when it becomes the mission staple method of play, it rapidly becomes tedious.

Shame.

I traded it in after having only played it a few short times, I just found myself arsing about on it constantly and not taking it seriously.

It's a great game - it really is. Some of the scenery and the 'openess' of it all is pretty staggering. But this small issue, which could easily be rectified in a patch is just ruining it for me. I wouldn't mind if their was a random timer element to it - hold off the current wave of attackers and then get anything from 10-60 seconds to get the hell out of there. But it's the constant, never-ending waves of reinforcements that are just crazy. Very quickly you're out of ammo and you simply don't have the time (or ability) to pickup the dropped ammo before getting strafed again and again. This issue is almost a deal breaker between me and this game.
