Tyre size

What's the difference between 205s and 195s? Need some new tyres for the 182 cup but unsure of what to go for. Tried searching but couldn't really find a proper answer. Jon

I think its a personal preference on this one Jon. I have gone from 205's to 195's and will be going back to 205's and sticking with them. I find the overall grip of the 205's better than the 195's and as an overall driving experience, prefer them.

205 is what the car is supposed to be on. The difference is mostly handling the wider the tyre the more grip kind of thing. The original tyres are Michelen pe2's 205/45/R16

I was also thinking this for a 15 inch williams wheel. ive always ran a 195 but could I go 205?

Just my opinion I would say yes. I think when they test the cars they go for the handling of course but do have to account for tyre cost so perhaps they deemed 205's for the Williams were too costly at the time if in doubt ask a friendly mechanic.

Oh right. Ive just found they dont exactly fit square on the tyre.

So a thought was 205s would maybe sit square or even a little out at the top but surely this wouldnt hurt

Oh btw Jon they don't make pe2's now pe3's no idea if they are any good or how much they cost.

For exact results between the 2 sizes they have to be on the same car and the same tyre. They were Toyo T1R's on a 206. The 205 gripped better.

On my Clio I had 205 PE2's, fantastic all round tyre. It now has 195 T1R's and firstly T1'Rs do not grip as well as the PE2's so this is an unfair comparison that is why I gave my opinion from the tyres on my old 206. Although, I really do not like the T1R's on my Clio because the chassis is sooo much better than the grip these tyres offer but also being 195's they just don't seem to offer the same feeling and grip from 205's which I prefer, and Renault obviously did aswell as they rolled out of the factory with these on.

T1R's are a good tyre for the money. They are cheap so that sums up the grip IMO.

What tread do they come with? I was watching a review of a porche and they come with pe2's old review of course but he was jibbering about it only comes with 4 mm? May have got that wrong but al try dig out the video

Normal road tyres come with around 7mm.

Johnny182; Those tyres are the pliot sport cups which are track tyres.

PE2's have normal amount, about 8mm.

Porsche have a habit of speccing their cars with bespoke rubber. Sounds like the Porsche would have been wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cups if they only had 4mm new. http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-pilot-sport-cup

...and no, theyr'e not available for wheel sizes that fit clios!

I'm looking to get some contact sport 2s but unsure on which size I need;
205 45 16
205 50 16
Or
205 55 16

Just wondered what other people are running with this tyre on a 182?

Jon
