Ah but you need to go to the dvla office, so the person wont be able to leave before you have gone and qued up at where ever it is, go and get it off.
I won an evo on ebay went to get it then was told 'i need to get the plate off', that can take upto 4 weeks (unless you go and que up) and so from then on i will never bid/enquire/phone up on any ads that say 'private plate will be removed once sold'

Can register a new owner n take the plate off at the same time so was just going to do it as I sell it. Always done that way before. I don't think people buying a z4 would be out off by that as most z4s have private plates

Or you sure that is possible? I've been driving a Matiz for 2 weeks now whilst the private plate is being taken off a 182 I'm buying! The guy went to the DVLA office to get the plate taken off aswell.

Exactly what happened with me and my car. I waited weeks (over xmas aswell) while it got transferred and he went to the DVLA office too!

you can do it or you could at least.. if you go to the dvla office with the new owners details, the guy clearly didnt go to the dvla office as the plate transfer is done instantly if you go in.. they give you a new tax disk there n then, its just a matter of waiting for the log book to come back but you still run the new plates... unless he did it buy post.. that woukd be the only time when you would have to wait for paperwork to physically change the plate

really well... i honestly love it so much more car than the 182, but with the golf done, i need a nice good diesel.

the fact ive had it 2 years should say something i usually keep my cars 6 months max..

But its been up for sale for a year?

Amazes me how some people just don't know how to write an advert. Have you never looked at any cars on Pistonheads and thought thats either a good or a bad advert.

I see where you're coming from, but at the same time that's utter tosh. If you're selling a car, you put it on both!

Pistonheads is an enthusiast site. Autotrader is for Joe Bloggs.
Joe Bloggs is more likely to go on Autotrader.
I never said don't advertise it on PH!

Laura, why don't you replace your description with mine? No one gives a f**k about your golf and clio if they're interested in buying your Z4. Also delete all the crap about the door, tell them on the phone. You've still got lots of spelling mistakes in the ad too.

It's not hard to be honest. Anyone can do it, its just laziness. Call it whatever you like but thats my opinion, if you can write posts on here that are readable you can write a car advert. Especially if you are a car enthusiast!!

Did you look through other adverts before writing it? Copy bits you like the look of. If when you are look at cars you see some info and you think ahh.. thats a good to know, add that sort of information in your own adverts.

And another thing is photos, photos and more photos. When I was selling my S4 I took 30+ photos, uploaded them all to photo bucket and linked them in my PH advert!

You have to understand some people are willing to travel for a car but do not want to waste there time, one mans good condition isn't another. The good thing with photos is they can see for themselves the condition.

Back to my S4, I had 1 phone call about it, it was advertised at what was a strong price. His first words were wow, the description means I don't really have any questions for you, other than when can I come and see it and are you open to offers. (he explained he was travelling far and wanted to know where he stood before he left) I said I might chuck you in a full tank of juice to get you home. He was happy with that came, viewed the car, paid in full and left!

You have to show you put effort in you are expecting someone to part with £6000 and that first description looked like you had spent about 2 minutes throwing it togeather. If that is all the time you can spare to advertise something worth that much, it would lead me to believe you don't care about your car.

Which one are you more likely to call:

1. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3428360.htm
2. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3465638.htm

When I was selling my S4

Back to my S4

Worst "I used to have an S4" comment ever... ;)

The idea of going through other adverts is a good one, research as much as possible, knowledge is power.

I would have it advertised everywhere if I were you, £6,000 is a lot of money, so it's worth paying the listing fees of the various sites imo, broadens your potential market, even link the adverts on your FB/Twitter, you never know who might see it.

i think the description is pretty sound now, im comfortable that the add is a good one.

i just think maybe now isnt a great time for a 3.0ltr convertible. I think ince ive done the few little bits on the clio ill be putting that up for sale as im fairly certain that will fly out the door, then run the z4 again untill it sells :D

Someone will buy it - at the right price.

January, post Xmas, longest time of the year since the last payday (most people are idiots who can't make their money stretch), it's cold and wet.. I wouldn't be looking to buy a drop top petrol drinking monster right now.

Take a hit on the price and get rid.

If the plate isn't already on retention, what are you doing ?! :S It's £80 for a swap and something like £110 for a year or two's retention which can be extended infinitely when it's due to expire.

Plate off the car, £500 off the price, stick it on AutoTrader and eBay classifieds.

Well I took peoples advice and I've now sent off for the plate to be removed so I don't have to sort it if someone wants to buy it. Just got to wait till that comes back now

Just reduce the price, basic rules of sales are.

If the phone isnt ringing then its too expensive.

Have you updated your advert and now told Pistonheads you're selling it due to a new Audi A1 coming?

I'd take this out tbh.

"the past 3 years I've been building a mk1 golf project that has now been completed, I now own a clio 182 for daily use which leaves the Z4 unused! It really is a great shame to see my pride and joy gathering dust, hence the sale."

Would have thought with the way the country is at the mo your target audience are going to be 30+ probably older, looking for a nice soft top not necessarily petrolheads. Probably don't know what a clio 182 is and don't care about your projects.:)

I know when my old man was looking for a summer car he wouldn't even consider stuff that talked about modifications or other projects just point blank 'thats been pissed about with and thrashed' even though its probably better cared for than most on the market.

I wouldn't stress about it though, it's a nice car you just need the sun to come out to give you a helping hand!

Swap for my beamer+cash your way? ;)

How much cash? lol

and the door im going to try and sort it now i have it back on the road, its just a right pain in the arse as it invoves taking the door card off and stripping the air bag and lock mech out the door.

A1 doesnt come untill the end of march - build week 9 iirc so i have untill then to shimmy it along
