Reverse lights stuck on.

Hi guys, wondering if anyone could tell me why my reverse lights are stuck on?

I've got a 1.2 Clio 2003. And recently I noticed that the reverse lights were stuck on. I've had to take the bulbs out as a temporary measure. Would really appreciate any feedback.

It'll either be down to a faulty position switch in the gearbox or the wiring is shorting out which is making the circuit complete/turning the lights on.

I don't have reverse lights on my 172... because can't be arsed to change the switch lol

cheers mate somebody else suggested it might be the switch on the gearbox aswell, probably won't be getting changed just yet haha.

yeah true, its just passed its mot without them in, although they did mention it, its just annoying not having them in.

Passenger side wheel arch, green plug. Sensor for when reverse is engaged to turn reverse lights on.

I didn't actually mean physically on the gearbox, I've been told there's a switch near the gearbox that click's in when reverse is selected and they said it's probably stuck or broken. I'm not sure i'm not massively educated in the mechanical side of things haha

I'll have to have a look at that, is it easy to access?

Yes but I think you need to drain gearbox oil first.

Not if you're quick enough you don't - jack it up on one side and do it when its cold and you'll lose very little.
