Just done same on mine, as mentioned above, cup conversion using cup or Volvo brackets and cup alt, unless you did what I did and found a 120 amp alt that fits.
I was going to say if you can't separate it, your simply not hitting it hard enough!! I split mine and put it back in no particular way. Is it really noticeable the steering?
If anyone needs a code in future, just go into Google store on your posh phone and type in Renault radio code or similar, loads of apps will appear. Download, scan the barcode on side, instant code. Job done.
According to the eBay advert it's of a Clio MK2 ph1 1.9dti with a/c. I believe the non a/c version uses the 75amp cup alt. But pretty sure it will be used in other Renault's.

I have managed to find a 120 amp alternator off another Renault, that physically fits, but it has got damaged in transit so waiting for a new regulator to come, then I can try and run it.
